Did you experience a slow weight loss rate?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently finishing up my pre-op requirements for band revision to gastric sleeve and was considering switching to gastric bypass because I'm concerned that I won't be able to lose enough weight. I am currently 368 lbs and 5'7" tall. How was your weight loss rate, was it greater slower because of having previously been banded. I was banded in 2009 btw.

I am having a band to bypass revision tomorrow. I chose bypass over sleeve because it is a non restrictive procedure and I had serious issues with reflux due to the band. Because of that my doc recommended bypass rather than the sleeve.

I cannot speak to the sleeve and you have to remember that everyone is different. I had bypass at the end of September 2014. I have lost 114 in ten months and have 31 left that I would like to lose.

I have had 2 major stalls the longest lasting 28 days. There is always a reason if the stall happens. For me, I have had more carbs than I should while being restricted from exercise due to a spine surgery. I am in control of how quickly I lose and have been ecstatic with my progress so far and so is my bariatric doctor.

I believe you can lose just as much weight with the sleeve, just look at all of the success stories on this site but again it is up to you and how you adapt to your new way of living. If you can make the changes necessary, anything is possible.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide!

My surgery was Oct 3 2014. I am 5'7" and I weighed 338.3 lbs when I started my pre surgery diet. As of today I am 205, less than a year out. I had the band and I do not exercise (bad I know). Everybody is different but this is my story so you know that it's not slow for everyone.

I do not regret my band to bypass revision one bit!! Even with my complication and paying for it out of pocket.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
