Eating to fast can't slow down

Recommended Posts

I have been eating fast. I can't seem to take 30 min with half a cup of food. Today I had "Turkey Albondigas" its like a turkey meat balls Soup with vegetables. I had about like 3oz. of meat balls. I put my spoon down between bites. But I am still eating fast. Does anyone have some suggestions.

Try using small appetizer (or toddler) utensils. Put your utensils down between bites. Chew each bite 20-30 times. Concentrate on tasting the flavor of each bite rather than anticipating the next one.

I have always eaten too quickly so it is quite a challenge to learn to slow down.

I'm a fast eater also. There is an app you can download called "Eat Slower" or something like that. I used it a lot at first. Now at 11 months out, I'm back to eating pretty fast. It's a hard habit to break for sure!

I have to set the timer on my phone for at least 2 minute in between bites. As I start to suspect I am getting full, I change it to 2 minutes. I also make sure not to eat past 20 - 30 minutes BUT I don't think I have ever made it to 30 minutes before I had to stop because I was full. (Or I seem to hiccup when I am getting full so I am trying to train myself to stop as soon as I hiccup!)

I find this really hard at home but do well at lunch time at work. Try to remember to do it but can't always. Sorry I have no tips for this, just a comment to let you know your not alone!

Once I felt a little better It was SO hard for me slow down.

For me, It was all head-hunger and years of quickly stuffing myself so I could have that full feeling and zone out. Self-medicate on food.

It took months to get past wanting that full feeling. Finally let it go and accepted that it may be gone forever. Now I don't miss it. Well most of the time anyway.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
