2+ weeks post op

Please tell me what you are/were consuming 16 days or so after surgery…I am hungry, I have a plain yogurt mixed with a blended fruit one, a Protein Shake or 2 a Soup or 2

probably 6-800 calories but hungry all the time and I feel like I am having too much. I have lost about 13-16 pounds since surgery day and feel the scale is not moving. WED will be 3 weeks since surgery.

What did your Nutritionist tell you? Everyone's plan is different. 16 days after surgery I was on solid food eating chicken and steak and ground beef with green Beans and zucchini.

Are you drinking the 64 oz of Water a day so you are not mistaking thirst for hunger?

I am 9 days out from VGS and am on a liquid diet until day 21. I can have Clear liquids and Protein shakes. No yogurt. I am so tired of drinking. I am not ready for meat, but a yogurt or watered down oatmeal would be great. I am only getting 500-600 calories a day and my body has slowed the weight loss because it is in starvation mode. Difficult when you are consuming so little and the scale barely moves. Physically the surgery was much easier than I anticipated, but it is a mental roller coaster

Am on day 9 as well. Was on Water, diluted juice and clear broth till today. Today I was cleared for Yogurt and milk, low fat. In 5 more days I could have puddings. My doc told me no Protein Shakes till 3 weeks post op. Every doctor has a system..

New beginnings, we are about the same age (I am Jan 66) and I think we were both sleeved on the 29th. All the best! I lost around 18 pounds since surgery. Not much pain either and started working (albeit shorter days) from day 5 post op. How are you doing?

I have a question . I had a cup of dry corn flakes do you think that will prevent the surgeon from doing my gastric sleeve surgery which is tomorrow ?

I have been trying to increase my calories because my weight loss stopped with 600 calories. Some days 800-900 is easy, some days I just can't. The weight is coming off still but slower than I though for the calories I am eating. I am 20 lbs down since my surgery, loss 1/2 of that the week.

I'm a month out from surgery and I feel like I stopped losing weight I'm eating and drinking everything they told me to and it just seems like I'm stuck. Has anyone else have this problem and I'm even working out 2 hrs a day. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

my 3rd week was a plateau, weight stayed unchanged for 8 days. Now losing again, down a good 30 pounds since surgery. (Start weight 265 lbs and BMI 38). Good luck!

I stopped losing for 7 or 8 days around 3 weeks. The infamous 3 week stall..Google it. It will last for a week or two the the weight comes off again. No worries!

I am 2.5 weeks out of surgery and have lost 29 lbs including pre op diet. I am so tired of Protein Shakes, that they make me sick. I have no hunger at all and its all I can do to make myself eat anything. Is anyone else going thru this?

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
