Stress incontinence

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately I have stress incontinence. When I sneeze or cough I leak. I'm wearing poise pads to catch my accidents. I'm also 49 and have had 3 children. If I wait too long after I feel the urge to go to the bathroom I can have a little accident. Has anyone else had this and then after surgery it has gotten better? I need to lose over 100 lbs. I'm just hoping this is one of the things that gets better.

Same here. I have 3 children but I'm 68 yrs old. Had the same problem with stress incontenence like you. I no longer have that issue since I lost 90 lbs. I can't remember exactly when it got better, but there is a light at the end of the weight loss, ha ha.

For me it has already improved and did so at about 50 pounds lost.

It improved for me as well. I joked with my surgeon that he fixed my bladder while he was in there.

I'm 54 and have just begun to have this issue. I work in an office and many times I've waited far too long, wanting to finish my train of thought with whatever I'm working on. The close calls are becoming too numerous lately and the allotted time between urge and reality has shortened significantly. Good to hear there's possibly of improvement coming!

I didn't have stress incontinence, I had an overactive bladder. In the course of a typical work day I'd use the bathroom upwards of 10x's. I needed to always know where a bathroom was. I used to wear poise pads everyday just in case. Since surgery, I use the bathroom once a day at work, sometimes twice. I went from being up 3 times at night to pee to maybe once.

Totally resolved my overactive bladder that I've dealt with since childhood.

I was beginning to have this problem before surgery, and I'm only 31 with no kids! I'm a nurse, and before that, I was a waitress, so my whole life I've held it for 10-12 hours. Add that with extreme obesity weakening the pelvic floor and putting pressure on the bladder, and wham! Problems. Stress incontinence can be a combination of factors, so eliminating obesity may go a long way in easing your symptoms. However, it may also be a result of multiple childbirths. I'd definitely recommend seeing a urologist and figuring out whether you need surgery to stabilize your bladder/internal muscles.

I was surprised that stress incontinence was on the questionnaire at my surgeon's office. We talked about it specifically, and he said the majority of his patients with it report significant relief after surgery.

I take a diuretic now, so combined with stress incontinence, it's a disaster waiting to happen. It's one of the improvements I'm looking forward to after surgery.

I had stress incontinence as well and it is completely gone!! That was probably one of the first things that went away with weight loss.

It was actually one of the comorbidities on my surgeons list. Thank goodness it went away after surgery!

I meant to say after the first month of weight loss after surgery.

I'm 25 with no kids and an x ray tech at a trauma center so sometimes I just can't go when I need to and it is harder and harder to hold it. I also have this issue. I'm sometimes afraid to sneeze or laugh. At work I sometimes wear pads just in case I can't make it. I especially notice sometimes when I go from sitting to standing I get sudden urges. My surgeon said all of this would go away and I hope she is right!!

Gosh I wish it would go away after surgery. I don't know if in my case after 7 vaginal births if that is even possible, but at least I could get it all fixes if it didn't but nice to read and see there is still some hope that it might!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
