choosehope 233 Posted July 26, 2015 I hear a lot of people say their hormones are all over the place and they are depressed or angry after surgery. Just wonder if there's any difference for those of us who are post-menopausal.
franyfamilia 7 Posted October 13, 2015 I had my surgery over a year ago and the biggest setback was my mood swings. I wasn't depressed. I was homicidal!!! If I had committed murder I would have used my surgery as my defense. I wasn't in my right mind. I had incredible...can't stop energy after I healed up, and could have gotten all my house remodeling done by myself if it had lasted a while longer. The downside is..... I was angry that everybody else in the family wasn't as enthused about working as I was and couldn't keep up. I would fly into a rage at the drop of a hat. I'm not exaggerating. I told my physician that he needs to put more emphasis on hormones and the effect surgery will have on them in his preoperative meetings. He said that I was an unusual case and suggested I see a therapist. I did for two visits...nothing wrong with me other than sleep depravation because of hormones. I am through with menopause and believe me when I tell you that my worst "crazy" day didn't compare to what happened after my surgery. It took almost 8 months for my hormones to get back to normal. My temper is back to a slow simmer instead of a volcano. I'm still not sleeping well but that comes with older age too. So be prepared....and prepare your friends and family. AnnainOK 49 Posted October 16, 2015 I'm fixin' to experience this for myself, and my theory is that because estrogen is stored in fat, even though we're post-menopausal (in my case via hysterectomy) the hormones hit our system in ways they haven't before--especially if we haven't been on hormone supplements.< /p>
peggyann60 1 Posted November 1, 2015 Are any of you ladies taking medicaion for the depression? has it helped? or what other methods of help have you tried?
Mega_100 146 Posted November 12, 2015 I would like to know as well. Have you found supplements to balance the hormone levels? I have a two-year-old that has me pulling my hair out every day. I have a very short fuse since surgery and that's not fair to her.

peglynmc 15 Posted April 12, 2016 I am 56 and post menapausal, I went through menapause early around age 42. Since I had my surgery on March 8, 2016 I have felt like I have had PMS every single day mood swings, crying jags, you name it. I'm assuming that it must be hormonal because I have been on Lamicatal and Cymbalta and Buspar for depression for years. My depression has also been controlled for all these years with meds. I see my surgeon again next week and plan to ask if I should have my hormone levels checked. Aside from that my surgery went great, I've been to drink 64 oz of Water everyday since day three after surgery, I have no problems eating, no nausea and no dumping. I get all my Protein in everyday. I don't know what hormones the surgery affects but I hope my doc may be able to do something about it. Ele marie 92 Posted May 17, 2016 I am angry they took me off my estrogen lol I had a full hysterectomy years ago. Which throws you in to menopause. If I went through it already which I should have. The estrogen helped me. If I see one here or one wrinkle on my face I'm taking estrogen! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

MCE1205 47 Posted May 27, 2016 My RNY was on Apr-13-2016. Was seeing Therapist and Psychiatrist pre-surgery for major depression caused by multiple deaths in family. Surgeon suggested to see them about 4-5 weeks post-op. My surgeon is awesome and believes working on mental health is just as important as physical health. Good luck to all. sandokat 9 Posted December 31, 2016 I think I am in the middle of menopause. I am currently 55 with my surgery set for 1/4/17. I have not had a period since 2005 but lately I am getting terrible hot flashes. I thought I was about done with them. Those of you with experience, what did the surgery do to your hot flashes? mbguilbo 1 Posted February 12, 2017 I seemed to start menopause as I started to lose weight pre surgery. I'm 57 so I was waiting for it to happen and perhaps all the extra weight was delaying it. In the last few months, I've noticed the hot flashes are coming fast and furious all the time....every day.
Denise0424 2 Posted April 2, 2017 Hi I am 55 and had surgery on March 21,2017. I read about hormones and because I take lexapro and Wellbutrin I thought I would be fine. Week two : my husband has lived thru hell. I am quick to speak my mind instead of holding my tongue. Someone sat in our seat a movie and I was ready to tell this lady off. I am not normally care about that at lease not to how quick my match was lit and intense these people looked scared. My husband calmly said easy girl , easy ...he just patted my leg. I was like o hell no... but I grumbled and sat down. I have been doing well and on track . Less weight lose then I thought after week out . I don't drink enough Fluid. My energy is off the chart . My moods well from crying to being an mean person. When I was younger much younger I had no filter. A feel that is where I am. I am so grateful to find this site. And to know I am not the only one. I am actually worried about going to work. Any suggestions . Also I have not had menopause yet . My mother had it late in her 50's and very short. My body has healed on the outside now this rollercoaster ride . And I am not a fan of roller coasters . Thank you for taking the time to read this 2 sandokat and carelabra reacted to this
