Still weigh more than surgery day!

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post op and I still weigh more than the day of surgery. I have had no trouble getting my fluids or Protein in. I have had minimal pain and feel pretty good. I can not tell if I am full. I've had a full carton of yogurt that ended with a runny nose but I did not feel full. Help !!

If the scale is bothering you, stay off it. It's completely normal to still be bloated up with all those surgery fluids for up to a week - 10 days.

The nerves in your stomach were cut and they are still healing. They cannot reliably tell you whether or not you are full. That runny nose you got is a signal that you overate. This is why it is so important to measure out a small portion and stick to that, and not wait for a physical "full" feeling (which is a bad cue to wait for anyway -- you want "satisfied," not "full,").

IMO there is no reason to eat a full carton of yogurt. Did your plan come with guidelines as to how much to eat for each meal? Mine didn't allow more than 3 tablespoons of food per meal when I was limited to things like yogurt. In any event, measure your portions, keep them small, and you will do great. Good luck!

Measure, measure, measure. You really need to stick to about 1/4 cup right now. I am almost 8 weeks out and still only eat 1/4 cup of yogurt every morning.

Three months out and yogurt isn't allowed until six months out on my instructions. Wish I could have it but am willing to wait.

Wow. That is very unusual. It is considered a full liquid for me and so was allowed my second week. Is there any particular rationale for why it is not allowed until six months? I am curious.

I was bloated for over a week. Do measure as the others have said because I too remember being able to eat more than I should a couple of times and I ended up with the slimeys! I was permitted to have greek yogurt thinned out at 2 weeks I think

I am four weeks out, and the best decision I've made throughout this process is to NOT weight myself for this very reason. I know myself well enough to know that if I weighed daily and did not see a drop, I would become frustrated. I have chosen to follow the rules, trust the process, and let the weight come off when it wants to. And I have to tell you it is the most peace of mind I've ever had about my weight. So my advice to you is jump right off that scale and don't weight yourself until your next doctor's visit. I promise you will be happy! (P.S., you're probably still retaining Fluid from everything they pumped in you during surgery- it will come right off!)

I'm 6 days post op and down 2 pounds from my pre-surgery weight. I did not weigh myself daily as I knew that loss would not be instantaneous. It takes time. You're body may still be in shock from the surgery. For me the last week has been rough. Dehydration led to a trip to the ER. Drinking/eating is slow going. Things will happen in due time. Don't rush it, and stay off the scale.

Yeah I think in the beginning I had greek yogurt and then cut it out too. I do keep a little to mix with my tuna though instead of mayo. This is just my experience but I have tried lower carbs and tried upping carbs trying to break a stall and I will say that lowering the carbs did work. Not sure if it's coincidence or it really does work. I am just starting my 8th week So it really is trial and error and learning from those that are farther out.

Don't let the scale have power...stay off of it. The weight will come off. Follow your plan and be gentle with yourself. It is your new journey to a new healthy life.

My first two weeks I could only do liquids. I tried cottage cheese a week out and it was just too hard on my tummy. I stuck with Protein shakes, broths and Water.. I would have a juice but would spread it out over 3-5 days for one 16 oz.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
