ohjul 51 Posted July 26, 2015 I'm 12 days post op and wondering if I'll ever have a lettuce salad again?
leanne1126 84 Posted July 26, 2015 My surgeon wants me to wait until 3 months out until I incorporate lettuce again. I've found that each surgeon seems to have different stipulations
TXMissy 211 Posted July 26, 2015 I love salad!! It's a staple in my diet. When I don't know what else to eat I'll find some tuna or chicken with salad.
Sreeves 56 Posted July 26, 2015 It;s my favorite way to get my Protein in! I am about 3-1/2 months post op and I have been eating at least 1 salad a day (usually 2) for the past few weeks (3 maybe?). I have not had a single problem with lettuce, yellow cherry tomatoes, or green onions, and my Protein goes down so easily with the added moisture of the lettuce. esskay77 785 Posted July 26, 2015 Everybody will be different. I found I don't crave salads very often. However, I do go to the salad bar every day at work and get some grilled chicken and mix in red onions, cherry tomatoes, green peppers and sometimes cucumbers. For some reason, I have no desire to put lettuce in the mix which seems really weird. But, you will have salads again. Just remember, Protein is the priority. mtraverse 327 Posted August 4, 2015 Mmmmm Salad!!! Sounds wonderful but I wonder if the lettuce is a waste of space? Any thoughts on this? Great alternative for wraps and sandwiches though!
esskay77 785 Posted August 4, 2015 @@mtraverse -- good point. Remember-- eat your Protein first!! THen, if there is room, have some veggies. But your main focus should be protein. Sometimes, when eating a salad, we focus on the veggies. You need to make sure that the protein is your focus.
wahtx 15 Posted August 4, 2015 I agree...protein first...however I have found that by eating some lettuce and veggies helps with Constipation.
checkmeowt 27 Posted August 4, 2015 also craving a salad! The doc wants me to wait at least another 6 weeks before adding ruffage.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted August 4, 2015 I was 6 months post op before my pouch tolerated salad. Now I eat it everyday of course with Protein on it. If I eat just a garden salad I won't stay full for very long. I crave fresh vegetable salad with a grilled chicken breast. Yum!
