Lap Band Slipped, Gastric Sleeve failed, what's next?

Recommended Posts

The surgeon left my sleeve too big due to the band. I need a revision. I also found a drawing of what my sleeve surgeon did to my stomach from sleeve to band it was not cut right size.

@@Soli3l that is fascinating. I have not heard of it, but kind of makes sense. Just out of curiosity have you considered logging your food/diet on a site like myfitnesspal.com and finding a sleeve buddy for accountability? Just a suggestion. Most of the failures i have observed have been because of bad food choices (and I admit this is only from youtube.com observations, not in-depth research). I'm not judging, I'm just trying to offer a suggestion that might help you. I can hear your dismay, and want to give a tip that might help you achieve you goals.

Yes I have. And I never stopped seeing my nutritionist. The food gets stuck in the area that didn't get cut. So my stomach stretches. I've used the app and log my food for my nutritionist to see/analyze.

It turns out that I might have a complication with my sleeve, I'm scheduled for an endoscopy. When a lap band is on your stomach it widens the sides like ears on your stomach, when it is converted to a sleeve, the surgeon might not cut the necessary amount leaving a big sleeve that leads to technical failure.

What was the outcome after they found out your sleeve was too big?

I'm going through something similar. I'm only ten months out but I know I can eat way too much and have been able to for months. The original doc said I may have stretched it out but I was thinking it had to do with my having the band first. However, due to my insurance changing I'm going to a new doctor next week and they are already saying something is wrong since I've only lost 10 pounds. I'll be having some testing done to see what's up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
