Lap Band Slipped, Gastric Sleeve failed, what's next?

Recommended Posts

I had the lap band July 2010 lost only 16 pounds, Lap band was removed Oct 2012. Had the sleeve done Nov 2012, lost 24 lbs only. I now have an appointment with a new surgeon to consider revision. I don't know which procedure he will recommend. I am still a diabetic with hypothyroidism being treated by endocrinologist. I have been seeing a WLS Nutritionist since 2011. Frustrated, I think I made the wrong decision two times. Was it the surgeon that did both of my surgeries? Is it me? Am I destined not to loose weight? Thanks for your support.

I can't help as I've no experience with your issues, but I hope you find the answers you are seeking. Good luck!

A member told me that I had to post it here...then another said don't, but was already posted....I am trying to find members that have been through my experience and what have they've done. Is there a way to delete all of my posts? Sorry to inconvenience you.

It turns out that I might have a complication with my sleeve, I'm scheduled for an endoscopy. When a lap band is on your stomach it widens the sides like ears on your stomach, when it is converted to a sleeve, the surgeon might not cut the necessary amount leaving a big sleeve that leads to technical failure.

Soli3l you don't need to apologize. We are all here for the same reason.

That's like the 6th rude response I've seen here from someone. I thought this was for support????

Endoscopy confirmed the doctor's suspicion...I have a big sleeve, it's also dilated w/ a bulge, he said it's not my fault, but it could be revised...now the waiting begins.

Good luck Soli31! Remember your journey is "yours" we can all just share or not share our experiences but no one can tell you the right decision for you. When I had my sleeve last year my Surgeon did a very small sleeve but she has reminded me ( even though I have lost 81 LBS in my first year and likely will lose a few more)on every one of my followup appointments that I can stretch my sleeve/pouch if I don't watch my portion size. So I keep in mind that all these procedures are tools to help kick start our weight loss and reduce or eliminate our illnesses but WE must make the decision. Every day to follow thru on nutritionand exercise.

All the best!

What was the outcome after they found out your sleeve was too big?

I'm going through something similar. I'm only ten months out but I know I can eat way too much and have been able to for months. The original doc said I may have stretched it out but I was thinking it had to do with my having the band first. However, due to my insurance changing I'm going to a new doctor next week and they are already saying something is wrong since I've only lost 10 pounds. I'll be having some testing done to see what's up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
