Kinda Screwed up... :(

Recommended Posts

I did it. I mess up. It happens to us all, I know I shouldn't beat myself up. I tried to eat something crummy for dinner. It was a quesadilla with cheese and chicken. I don't know what I was thinking, I just gave in. I ate 3 bites and felt super sick my stomach hurt so bad, so I stopped and threw it away. So I guess that's a good thing at least, I couldn't eat it.

I'm just mad that I gave in. Things have been going so well! This week was the first time I've actually seen results. I'm always so hard on myself, but I can't ignore that I'm wearing clothes that haven't fit the past year. I should be thrilled! I've just had someone at work who claims to be supportive, but ends up saying comments that come across a little hurtful. And it's been eating at me for a few weeks. I can't believe I let someone make me feel so bad. I never thought I'd feel like this again. :'(

Don't be hard on yourself, we all do that although some will not admit it. I really wanted frozen custard the other day and I gave in and picked up some. I could only take a couple of bites before it made me feel sick. I know now that it isn't worth the feeling I get after having it. Lesson learned.

It's just one pebble in a gravel pit when you get right down to it. One misstep doesn't discount all the ground you've already covered. You've learned from the experience and paid a price too, so it's time to move on. ????

I'm not sure when in June you had your surgery, but if you're at the phase where you can eat regular food, three bites of something bad for you isn't a big deal. That probably would have made me sick too, but now you know it doesn't agree with you just yet, so you don't have a need to try it again tomorrow. The whole point of the surgery is so that at some point you can be healthy, thin, and normal, with an emphasis on normal. Some days I have a few bites of ice cream, last week I was baking a lot and I had WAY too much caramel sauce, and the other day I had some calimari. 90% of the time I eat very well, 7% of the time I eat almost whatever I want, and 3% of the time I eat like a chunky monkey, just in very small portion sizes. It is ok to sometimes have something that is bad for you. Enjoy it and then get right back on the healthy train.

I agree with Avafern, one moment is not a reason to throw the babies out with the bath Water. Thank God for the limited space our stomachs can hold because had it not you probably would have ate 1200 or more calories with that thing. 2 to 3 bites not a big deal. You will remember that and make better choices with the next meals.

Count yourself luck that you only felt " crummy !" When I was allowed to eat solids I went out to a mexican restaurant, had 3 bites of a quesidilla, 3 tiny sips of a margarita ( forgot about no straws ) and proceeded to have everything.............. and I mean everything come up in the the restroom and the parking lot. It was beyond bad. So.......try to eat healthy most of the time, but dont beat yourself up over nothing ! ( my Dr.s rules ? 95% healthy eating, 5 % dont worry about it. It works !) Good luck !

I'm missing out why this was so bad.

I don't really understand.... a Protein, a Protein, and a carb should be fine.

This exact combo is fine on my "regular" diet. No way I could ever get a whole tortilla in me, but, a tortilla with cheese and chicken are on my YES list. Of course you have to use a small tortilla, but I just don't understand, why was this so bad?

Are you 2 weeks out from surgery or something, @@scarletwitch19?

I was told when I had my sleeve I am basically reinventing my stomach and every new food is a new experience. Your brain unfortunately is still leaning on previous experience to set up the anticipation of that food. Therefore the brain said eat, we ate. Prior to surgery, the brain ruled in most of us, Now the stomach has powerful new weapon in this fight. I have unfortunately had more than a few" heave hos" and "almost made it to the bathroom honey" events in these last two months to where my brain is now starting to listen to my stomach much more and its getting better, as it will for you. It is an educational process initially, not a will powerthing.

As for the hurtful comments from someone, punch them (oops, I think I typed that out loud).. I mean, eerrr, express to them your displeasure at their comments in a fashion they can understand. perhaps by a gift of sugar free gummi bears (as noted in a post by @missmac). It apparently provides some interesting special effects...

head high, its a marathon, not a sprint...

I'm 7 weeks out, and yes I understand cheese and chicken are Proteins but a fried quesadilla ordered from a Mexican restaurant is still not a great choice. And it definitly wasn't low fat cheese.

I'm five five months post op and I can barely eat a small piece of a chicken and cheese quesadilla mine wasn't fried but I still couldn't finish it your very fresh from surgery still that wasn't a good idea just yet your still swollen inside and it was likely too rich for you at this point pls don't beat yourself up we have all been there being on strict pre op diets and barely eating post op when things start to taste good and smell good again our brains say yes!!! Let's try that doesn't always work well lol as for ppl being critical of you having surgery well you kinda have to have a thick skin u can't let it bother you don't discuss it that opens the door for ppl to give opinions and if some assclown starts anything shut it down say I only discuss medical issues with my dr thank you the thing is ppl don't get this unless they have been thru it some ppl like to feel superior and give comments on issues they know nothing about they will say oh your fat why don't u do something about it and then when u do they sit in judgment for those saying oh it's the easy way I say this well when you have the procedure and u live with it and all that it entails we can talk about and review why you feel it's so easy until then keep your opinion to yourself

@@scarletwitch19 Now I understand. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm 2 months and 5 days out from surgery, and still on soft foods...working up very slowly, to regular foods. Via my NUT's orders. I can't even imagine being able to eat something like a quesadilla at this point. You must be a fast healer.

Best of luck in future.

Shellyd88, I like the way you think ! It's a "take no prisoners! " attitude that sometimes you have to adopt to help you deal with the uninformed people who feel they have a right to make snarky comments or rude opinions on medical procedure that they haven't a clue about !!!!! Scarlet witch, take notes from her ! And speaking of notes, I noticed in your profile you've lost 49 lbs ? Yes ? Congratulations ! Great job ! You should be very proud of yourself , so think of that when the idiot co worker starts running her mouth ! Good luck !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
