Congrats on your date citygirlInKs that is awesome!

Thank you Tracy!

I'm going for my 3rd appointment for the supervised diet next week or the week after I think. I have Cigna so they are pretty strict and I am not sure going to the doctor and telling him that I am sticking to the diet that the nutritionist gave me is good enough or if I should be doing WW or something so guess I will need to talk to Rachel at Dr. Malley's office.

I think I will be approved, but I do have plan B which is Tall Grass in Topeka if I have to be self pay. I can borrow against my 401K and get a small loan for the rest. I would rather pay myself back with interest than a bank with interest. I have heard the doctor over there is good too. My friend's step mom is a post-op nurse so she sees all those patients. But that is plan B and I am going to think positive that plan A will come to be! Cigna will pay Cigna will pay Cigna will pay Cigna will pay Cigna will pay. I will put it out to the Universe. Watch the Secret, it's awesome!

Happy weekend every one!

Rebecca

Tracy,

No I haven't. Actually, everything is happening rather quickly. I went to the seminar 1.5 weeks ago, had my consultation a few days later and scheduled my surgery at the beginning of this week. I'm still waiting for my packet from the nurse about what to do before the surgery. Are you a Malley patient too? Should I anticipate a pre-op diet?

They started doing a liquid pre op diet in March. Depending on your BMI is depenant on how long you follow it. I was on the FAREWELL to food tour for months gaining weight between January and April, so I went on it early to make sure that my liver was in good order.... HOW EXCITING FOR YOUR DATE TO BE SO CLOSE!

"Farewell to food tour"....I love that!!! Yeah, I contemplated taking a weekender to Vegas to say goodbye to buffets but Ameristar will just have to do.

Did you have your procedure at Heartland Hosp. or Menorah? I'm scheduled for Heartland and I hear it's a smaller hospital so I was just curious what it's like and if I am missing out on not being at a big hospital like Menorah.

City Girl,

I had mine done at Heartland and was extremely impressed with everyone from the check-in ladies to the post-op team. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating.

Every room is private with its own bathroom which makes everything so much more comfortable.

Good luck with the process.

I would of prefered to have the Doctors Hospital and especially a private room! The lady they put me with was nice but she was having some kind of back issue.... so she ate EVERYTHING.. fruit plates, french toast ... the full service menu and I was stuck with those minty sponges! DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE HARD CANDY! those were my lifesavers......... literally I had a pack of lifesavers! LOL

I have my first consult with Dr. Malley tomorrow. I have aetna insurance thru HCA and I guess I have to go to Menorah. My insurance also requires a 3 month surgery prep diet. Hopefully I will be able to start that soon. From what everyone else wrote, it sounds like Im going to like Dr Malley, Ill let you know tomorrow after my apt. what I think!

Good Luck RMB! There will be a lobby full of people and all of them are either getting a consult or a fill! (or supporting a loved one)

p.s. my fill #2 is really working! I have the "small" band and am filled to 2.75cc right now. I KNOW I will be hitting the 230's this week.

I am in KC and am self-pay. I have an appointment on Wednesday with Dr. Wanda Kaniewski in Lenexa. I have heard good things about her. She has done over 800 bands. I hope to be banded no later than the 24th. The cost is $13,500 for the band. Fills are $100-$150 and another couple hundred I think for the pre-op work. Seems like a very comprehensive program with lots of resources and support.

Wow! I didn't know that you could get banded if your BMI is below 35. That is awesome! I had a friend go to Mexico b/c she was under 35 and couldn't find a doctor here to do it! I'm so glad there is one here that will do it. I was worried that I might lose too much weight on the doctor supervised diet that my insurance is requiring me to do. I have lost some weight, but my BMI is still over 35 but my doctor wants me to lose 25 pounds during this 6 months so then my BMI would be under 35... oh what a mess. I can't wait to talk to Rachel at DR. Malley's tomorrow so I can figure this out.

Well that is cool. Do you have a date yet? If not I hope you get one soon!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
