I am seriously considering quitting my Protein shakes and replacing them with his set point smoothies.

I've just started to read his book, but I've been watching his YouTube videos lately, and they make a lot of sense to me. His main premise is to eat a lot of healthy food, rather than cutting calories. The #1 task is to eat 1-2 lbs of vegetables per day. I started doing that 3 days ago, and I've lost almost 5 lbs. That's pretty remarkable, considering my daily caloric intake has been around 2150 cals, and has included ice cream twice and one very large and delicious pork burrito. But most of my meals have consisted of fresh vegetables. (BTW, ever had purple cabbage and apple salad for Breakfast? It's delicious.) I've been on Weight Watchers many times, with far fewer calories per day, and I never got anywhere near that kind of result. Of course, it could be a fluke, but it is exciting.

I'd also be interested to hear of other people's experiences, especially those who have been on it long term.

Forgot to mention, I do a shake similar to his set point smoothie. Here's what I do:

1 veg (kale or spinach has the least flavor and tons of nutrition, but I love arugula for the kick)

1 fruit (preferably frozen; berries are very low cal, but anything works)

plain Greek yogurt or Protein powder

flavored Omega oil supplement (I use Barlean's)

Water

optional:

herb: I love cilantro and parsley, but I've heard mint and ginger are also good

fat: a few nuts, a little avacado, nut butter

other: chia seeds, wheatgrass, or other

sweetener: stevia, Splenda, Torani sugar-free Syrup (if you use berries, you may need a little sweetener, otherwise skip it)

ice

Dr. Weiner is my surgeon. I watched all of his videos before I decided to move forward. I love his book and it is a proven tool in losing weight and maintaining. I have nothing but great things to say about him. I refer his book to all of my friends whether they have had surgery or not. If you follow his plan, you will lose weight!!

I've read his book and watched a lot of his videos. I'm a fan. His theory makes a lot of sense and especially fits well with set-point theory which experientially seems true to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
