Having trouble eating Solid foods

Recommended Posts

As of Today it has been 3 months since my surgery and according to the guideline that my doctor gave me I should be on solid foods. I can eat solids but only certain things. I cannot seem to be able to eat rice, noodles, eggs, bread, or any type of meat, if I attempt to I throw up (I throw up alot). Does anyone know if that is normal?? I am thinking of becoming a vegetarian, bc it seems like I can eat black bean burgers, but not regular hamburgers. When I go to chipotle I get black Beans, veggies, and guacomole and I am ok. Dr said I could be lactose intolerant for 3 to 6 months, I cannot seem to tolerate, eggs, milk, butter, cream. his really sucks, Luckily I found a Protein Shake that is lactose and sugar free made by Lean Body (on the Go) and it has 25gms of Protein.

I was told no rice, no Pasta, no bread, those sit hard in our stomachs. I can eat eggs and meat. Red meat is tough on our tummies so maybe try it again in a few more weeks.

You're not alone. For the 1st 6 months, I was very limited on the foods I could eat. Turkey hamburger and refried Beans were my main staple during that time. eggs, chicken, beef, fruit, vegetables... were almost certain to cause Frankensleeve to throw a fit. The funny part was that I could easily tolerate processed foods like creamy peanutbutter! :-(

Hang in there, things will improve as your tummy heals. All too soon you will be able to tolerate more kinds of foods and a bigger volume of food. Take this time to get into good eating habits, like eating slowly, not drinking with meals, and noticing when you feel full - rather than eating everything on your plate.

3-C plan for success!

Control what you can (your actions and thoughts).
Cope with what you can’t (external emergencies and other’s behavior).
Concentrate on what counts.

Stay positive. Believe in yourself. Focus on your progress, not perfection.

Thank You so much for replying, I like that you call it Frankensleeve bc that's about what it feels like. I have noticed that Mashed sweet potatoes, and mashed potatoes and stuff likethat totally are fine with my stomach right now. My friend made me a carrot Soup and I add pureed sweet potatoes and butternut squash too it, but it gets boring after a while and my family does not fix me anything seperate when they fix everyone else dinner, so I have to either eat a little of what they cooked and then get sick or just drink a Protein shake. I need to go to the grocery store and buy some more black bean burgers they are soo good.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
