Hey, all! I just had my surgery on the 13th of this month (July, 2015). I stayed a little over 24 hours in the hospital and did very well in recovery, so they let me go home after only 1 day. This week, on July 22nd, I had my 1-week post-op appointment to get my JP Drainage Tube taken out. Everything went well; I experienced virtually no pain and just a small amount of discomfort when they were taking out my stitches. My question comes from the drainage that I'm still experiencing. I am experiencing a lot of drainage! I have purchased super-absorbent abdominal pads to soak the drainage up, but am having to change it several times a day (that's how much drainage I have). Other than the AMOUNT of drainage I'm having, everything is fine. My drainage color is still "good" - light/clear orange/pink, and there is no infection at the site. My vitals are good (I get them done once a day as I work in a medical facility, haha). Has anyone experienced this massive amount of excess draining? How long until it slowed? Thanks in advance! <3

I had a lot of drainage and my drain stayed in an additional week. Even after that I had a little seepage until the hole closed.

I also had mine in for 2 weeks. I was still getting quite a bit of drainage at 1 week. I called my doctor after a week to ask if I could have it removed and they told me that if I did I would just be draining out of the hole and not into the tube and bulb but they didn't say I COULDN'T get it out, just that it would be very messy. It sounds like you are safe since you don't have any signs of infection. How handy to be working in a medical facility post op! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
