Has anyone been sent home and had to give themselves lovenox shots? It a blood thinner for blood clots?

Also what pain meds did you get an rx for and the costs?

Lovenox can be 300-600 bucks

What fun

I had the shots for seven days. My insurance covered it, with a small copay... Maybe $15. I had Tylenol with codeine for pain, again a minimal copay.

Not with my sleeve surgery. But I had them after each of my knee replacements. They auto-inject so its not a big deal. You'll probably start them in the hospital so the nurse can show you exactly how to do it.

Honestly, the worst was all the bruising on the abdomen at the injection sites. That takes awhile to clear up... looks gross but is harmless.

@@lmm300missouri I haven't had surgery yet but when I do i'll have to do it for about two weeks afterwards. I had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lung) in 2013 so they need to take extra precaution with me.

It varies, so you need to ask YOUR bariatric surgeon.

As I mentioned above, my doctor does not routinely prescribe post op blood thinners. My experience was post knee replacement.

I had to do this after I broke my kneecap a couple of years ago. The injections were easy to give, and not painful (I had been on insulin before that for gestational diabetes so I wasn't worried about injecting myself, but it is very straightforward and anyone could do it). You will be fine ????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
