Hi!

Start weight feb.2015 - 256

Surgery 5/12/15- 236

Current 7/23/15- 195

Total loss- 61 lbs

So 61 lbs sounds like a lot of weight. It's 41 lbs @ 10 weeks post op. From other May sleevers, it seems on track with what others are loosing who started around my size. I've also lost 25inches combined in chesr, arms, hips, thighs.

Tomorrow I go in for a check up tomorrow and for some reason feel like I'm going to let her down. Like I haven't lost enough. My head realizes it's bunk but my heart feels like I'm not loosing like I'm supposed to.

Anyone else have trouble matching reality with emotions or thoughts?

I haven't had surgery yet so I can't speak from that perspective. But I do remember years and years of going to the doctor and being afraid of their reaction when I got in the scale. I was never a competent adult at times but a frightened and ashamed child who desperately wanted approval but expected to disappoint, not be good enough or to be reproached.

My gut tells me that you are probably having normal feelings. Your head hasn't had the chance to catch up to your body. Nor has your spirit. As I contemplate this I am coming to realize that for me, the real journey is going to be spiritual and emotional. It's scary but I know my weight has frozen my development in so many areas. And now I'm getting ready to change my body dramatically and have to grow up emotionally as I do.

Take heart! It sounds like you have done a phenomenal job! Enjoy a happy dance!

So my surgeon was very pleased with my progress. She urged not to compare numbers with other vsg patients because we are all so very different in our journey. I totally agree and simply use similar sleeve comparisons to see if I'm near on track or maybe need to contact her to see what I need to adjust.

Thanks for the support :)

IMHO, you're losing way faster than the average WLS patient.

Be grateful.

And do what your doc said -- stop comparing yourself. You could stall for a month. But if you're eating / drinking / exercising right, you shouldn't worry about that either.

I know exactly what you mean!

I postponed my 3 month checkup for weeks because I thought my surgeon wouldn't think I had done well enough. My husband knew what I was doing and told me I was being ridiculous but I just couldn't shake it.

So I finally went to the appt and my DR barged into the room and demanded a BIG HUG while telling me how great I have done.

I feel it is definitely a "brain needs to catch up with the body" type of thing. Some days I have to look at before photos, try on old pants, etc or I still cant even SEE the difference in my body.

A very strange thing indeed.

YOU have done phenomenal in such a short time!!!

Thanks so much! The brain is fascinating and confusing at times. Glad to hear it's not just me... although I wish we all could have our brain and body match up ;)

Seems you are doing fantastic as well!!

This is the problem I'm having. I don't feel I'm doing well enough and can't see the progress. No matter what old pics I look at or clothes I wear I see that its different but I don't SEE the difference in real time and I don't feel it either.

So while I can't speak for your progress in the future, but you are doing great! It took 50lbs for me personally to see the difference in myself in pictures or mirror (and only my face in the mirror because it slimmed out first.) We all loose weight in other areas at different timea.

Be kind to yourself during this journey. Numbers don't lie. Take pictures to compare side by side. Also, measuring bust, hips, thighs, arms can shoe a different type of number. My weight may stall but I loose inches.

It's totally Normal. Hang in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
