I had my last Pre-Op class today, and when I left I was on the verge of a major anxiety attack. I know this is what I want, what I planned for, but it was all very overwhelming today. My surgery is 7/29 so some positive thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey, I'm a 07/29 bypass too, so I know exactly how you're feeling. I just keep reminding myself of all the reasons why I sought out surgery in the first place. And remember to breathe! Which is easier said than done, I know.

Funny how the last few days leading up to surgery sometimes feel like the most stressful of all.

We're going to do fine.

I think some of it is we can't use our old go to (food) to de stress. Normally if I felt like I was on the edge of a breakdown I'd go through the Dairy Queen drive thru. Guess this is good practice for learning new coping mechanisms.

It's a major surgery and should not be taken lightly. I can tell you first hand that I am thankful everyday that I did it. I know that in preop I questioned if it would be worth it. I wondered if I was rushing into surgery. I was scared of so many things from eating to anesthesia. Truth be told, I can tell you that it was the smartest thing I have ever done and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!

I am 26 months post-op from RNY gastric bypass surgery. I lost 115 pounds and kept it off. Almost all of my medical conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, GERD, frequent urination) have gone in remission and stayed there. Frankly the surgery was one of the best moves I ever made in my life.

I had my surgery on 6/11/2015, and I was freaking out also 2 weeks before surgery, and I was feeling scared and emotional. I think it's normal to feel that way. I have 3 kids so I was scared, but everything went perfect and it was the best decision I made. I am down 40 lbs and have had no problems. The 21 day liquid diet went easier then I thought it would. It was actually pretty easy. My sleep apnea pretty much went away and I don't use a CPAP machine anymore. You will be just fine :).

Hi everyone,

I think what your feeling is 100% normal. If you didn't have some anxiety I'd be concerned. Ladies & Gentlemen you have made a choice to change your life forever & very much for the better. My husband is 5 yrs out from his rny. He lost 180 (current weight is 181 lbs) has kept it off ????????????????????????needles to say I'm proud of him

BUT I'm more proud on myself right now 8 months ago I began my new life after RNY bypass & i'm down 96 lbs (I started at 242 lbs) Yes I still have some to go but I'll get there!! Only thing I wish is I had done this sooner... Fear is normal, yes there will be some pain & discomfort but once your 6 months post surgery you'll see ... The fear wasn't worth all the stress & anxiety you put yourself threw... Ladies & Gentleman take the time before your surgery to relax & enjoy your family & friends .... Cause once you have the surgery your going to want to be busy ALL THE TIME!!! I've missed to many times with my family to want to sit around and miss a single opportunity to live my life to the fullest and I'm dragging them kicking & screaming with me every step of the way now days if I have to (LOL) & so far their all in ... Wish you all the best & please know it's not nearly as bad as you think it will be ... You've picked a doctor that over the last year (possibly years) that you feel you can trust ... And now it's his turn to show you how good he/ she really is ... Keep your eyes on the prize !!! Your health & a life worthy of YOU .. You've always been beautiful/ handsome ... But due to our weight we haven't really been the full US but by god WE WILL BE SOON!!! Best wishes

My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow 7/29. I'm having a sleeve to bypass revision so I kind of already know what I'm facing and guess what? I have been freaking out majorly until last night. Fortunately one of my best friends is also my cardiologists. She told me by all means I am doing the right thing and if she had an inkling of doubt she wouldn't let me do it. I'm 240 lbs and would love to get down to 140. She guaranteed that I will be off my heart and cholesterol meds as well as my Gerd and sleep apnea will go away. Even though I already knew this I needed to hear it from my own friend/cardiologist. Today I am FINALLY AT PEACE! Let's get this show on the road!!!

Tomorrow is my day too! Have to be there at 545 am for a 730 start. I'm nervous. I know it's the right thing to do because I can't lose weight and keep it off the "normal" way. And I'll just be in trouble later on if I don't do it - with my knees or my back or my heart or the list is endless. I am scared though. I have a little boy and want to be there for him when he's older. Wish all of you luck w your 7/29 surgeries. Please let me know how it goes !!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
