Hey there! I am 10 days post-op! Is there anyone else in the area who had Dr. Lord as a surgeon?

Having surgery with Dr. Lord on the 21st! How was your experience? My mom had her surgery with him a little over 10 yrs ago while he was still in VA. She was absolutely thrilled with him.

I have been very pleased. I'm almost 6 weeks post op now and I haven't had a single complication. I haven't even been sick one time! My hubby is having his surgery next month.

I have not been approved surgery but I have started the process.... I still have a lot to do like the psych evaluation and nutrition classes. Any advise as I navigate through this process?

Go through the motions and jump through the hoops. Most importantly: ASK QUESTIONS! Especially of your nutritionist. :)

Yes ask questions. I think I didn't do enough research to know what questions to ask. Everyone there is very informative but I feel like I didn't understand the permanence of this procedure.

Ask, ask, ask!! I feel somewhat blessed as I am the third person in my family to have the procedure, I knew what I was getting into. Even so, I sit here 4 days post op and I blow up my moms phone, my cousins phone, my girlfriends phone because I STILL have questions. Take in as much nutrition info as you can, in the long run, we all receive the same info, but our timelines vary based off our surgeons. My NUT and Surg. Have me starting solids at the end of the week, most people stay on liquid for weeks, so eat up the nutritionist teachings. Don't lie to the psych. I'm bipolar 2, PTSD, major anxiety, panic attacks and severe depression diagnosed. I still passed my eval. They aren't looking at your past, they're checking your mental stability and ability to handle hardships for your new future. It's a lot of hoops, but they're small hoops, and if you're ready, you'll make the jumps easily and keep pushing. You've totally got this!!

Dr. Lord did my surgery July 20, 2015. He is an awesome surgeon! I left the hospital taking only Tylenol for pain. I haven't had any complications of any kind. The nutritionist, Robert, is also wonderful. The whole experience was amazing. My only regret is not doing it sooner. I've lost eighty pounds since surgery and I feel so much healthier. Be sure to attend the support group meetings the first Tuesday evening of each month at six o'clock in the main entrance to the hospital. Hopefully, I'll see you there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
