mataz78 36 Posted July 24, 2015 I'm 2 days post op and I am really struggling to get in enough liquids. I drank 24 oz Water yesterday and 11 oz of Protein Shake today. That shake took me 5 hours to drink! This coming from someone who used to put down 100 oz water down before surgery like it was nothing. Really didn't think it would be this hard. Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted July 24, 2015 It is a challenge. I am three months out and have to stay on top of my fluids all day. At least all your liquids count toward your Water goal when you are on the liquid stages. Keep sipping!
lealor 127 Posted July 24, 2015 Why is it so hard to get it down? Are you too full?
mataz78 36 Posted July 24, 2015 The gas pain makes it painful. And yes my stomach feels too full
Babbs 14,681 Posted July 24, 2015 @@lealor After surgery, the opening into the stomach and the stomach itself is very narrow because of swelling (about as narrow as pen or straw) making drinking and eating very difficult. As time goes on and the swelling subsides, it gets easier.
ausmith 374 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) This is normal don't panic, you prob won't be able to get your full requirements of Fluid or Protein in until you are on full foods. Just remember to try your best with the fluids because you don't want to become dehydrated. You will also probably be a little weak until you can get your Proteins in which is also normal.
