Not to mention the path to death is slow and not fun. Vision changes, circulation problems, and the damage it does to body organs. I don't even want to think I could one day need dialysis.

This is my driving factor too. My diabetes is totally reversible at this point. I take Metformin 1000mg twice a day and I can't wait till the day that it goes away completely!

Exactly why I am going for surgery I only take pills but is because I refuse doing the shots I don't want to be insulin dependent.

I'm insulin dependent, but it'd controlled and I been doing good. So I hope after my sleeve I won't need insulin

4 days of preop now and not 1 Metformin taken. Blood sugar 99 this morning. My prescription is 500mg 2 times a day and I feel great thinking the meds and cpap can be gone with the sleeve! I have had diabetes 7 months that is enough for me to know it is worth all of this to get my sleeve.

Sugars have been holding at 99 in AM & bedtime since starting my preop diet. I check my sugar faithly each day to be sure it doesn't get high or too low.

I am on 2 tablets a day Metformin 500mg. I eat less than 700 cal per day on pre op. I use the fitness pal. On a full liquid diet with 2 Unjury or Jay Robb shakes per day with 4oz skim milk and a scoop of ice & add pack of splenda. Limit to 1 serving of creamy chicken Soup 1/2 a can per day and have sugar free pudding and Jello and light yogurt yoplait. It is tough but thats what I have to do. I want to be rid of diabetes and sleep apnea / cpap. I keep thinking just 7 more days and I am looking forward to puree 2 weeks post op. Good luck

I take 4 shots a day. Novolog with each meal and then Lantus at bedtime. I started my pre-op diet this past Tuesday, July 28. So far, I am down two shots, 10 units of Lantus at Breakfast and then 10 units of Lantus at bedtime.

My pre-op diet consists of 3-5 shakes a day, beef or chicken broth, sf popsicles, sf, Jello, Water, and crystal lite. My numbers have been running between 125-170 thru out the day. I have gone high twice and have not dropped too low yet.

Right now I am off my metformin and monitoring BSL twice a day. I had surgery on July 28th. I was told to call the doctor's office if it does above 200. My readings have been ranging from 109-154. This is because I am on clear post op liquid diet. I go to surgeon tomorrow and he will advise. Once I incorporate food, I imagine that I will have to add some Meds. Who knows???

????????

Maybe not though. You will be eating so little. Or you'll be switched to another med with smaller dosage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
