Is your insurance paying or are you paying?

My doctors told me I didn't have to lose anything prior to surgery. So crazy how some ask you to do that & some don't.

Why do you need a endoscopy?

i have health first insurance, ive been in preparation for 6 months. they want me for an endoscopy to check for bacteria or infections in my stomach. they told me they cant guarantee my new surgery date which is my main reason for frustration.

i have pcos so its extremely hard to lose weight even with the liquid diet, i lost 8 pounds but they want me to lose more since im young.

I have PCOS as well, but that has nothing to do with what you are having done. I find that mind blowing.

Do you have stomach issues? I work at a hospital & I do all the pre-authorizations/benefits for bariatric procedures & we never asked for a endoscopy. I might have to pick my Doctors brain.

Is the endoscopy your surgeon's requirement or your insurance's?

they said it would either be endoscopy or stool sample that the insurance would require to ensure no bacteria before actual clearance. (sorry if thats TMI)

my mother is having the bypass done as well on august 3rd (my original date) she has clearance because she already had the endoscopy done.

Just a quick response to this....my surgical team requires ALL patients to have an EGD (endoscopy) test before surgery. Guess all programs are different.

My surgery was originally scheduled for April 28th and rescheduled for May 26th. I did not lose the required amount of weight requested and I was not tracking my food daily. Not insurance requirements but my program's requirements.

Like you, I was completely heart broken. Now I realize it was the best thing for me. It gave me another month to really prepare for the surgery and new lifestyle.

As disappointing as being resceduled is, it could be for the best.

I wasn't required to do an endoscopy, but did do the stool sample. If they give you a choice, I would do the latter as it's quicker and easier.

My program required a 10% weight loss, which I not only had to lose, but maintain until surgery, which is next week. It's never easy but it will benefit you in the long run, which I know is hard to see now as you've been terribly disappointed by the postponement. I hope things work out for you! Good luck!

My doctor's office required a EDG. Because they don't see inside the stomach during surgery. I found out I have a high level of acid so they started me on medication to help before and after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
