9 weeks out and only getting about 600 calories in daily

Recommended Posts

My NUT suggested higher fat content dairy products - 2% milk, 2% milkfat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc., to help with reaching the calorie goal if you're struggling.

I am a year post op and I average around 800-900 calories a day. Some days are more and some days less. I was averaging around 500 until I was around six months post op. I just focus on getting my Protein and fluids in.

My biggest sources of protein are: eggs, grilled chicken, fish, shrimp, cheese, and an occasional Protein Shake or bar.

I think everyone varies on their calorie count. Some people can eat more and lose and or maintain and some have to eat less. If you log/track your food you might can see trends on which weeks you lose more based on your calories and intake. That has helped me.

I'm a little over 4 months and I usually get around 800-1000 per day, usually closer to 800. Avocado and some nuts help me get in some calories..

1200 seems high at this point..

If you keep having the urge to snack, snack on deli meat rollups or cheese sticks, or chicken breast or steamed shrimp. That will help you get both calories and Protein.

I have never heard 1200 cals, I also was told 600-800. Two premier shakes and I get my min of 60 gms of Protein and 320 cals. Its fine to snack as long as its Protein like I eat string cheese, laughing cow spreadable cheese on a wasa cracker and a teaspoon or so of natural Peanut Butter. ( at separate times of course) I find if I'm getting in my protein and Vitamins, food is just a bonus because I like to chew ;).

1200 calories is doable. My Protein goal is 100 grams of protein and I am about 1200 calories a day. I eat lots of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey, tuna, etc. I still supplement with a Protein Shake most days. One way to up your calories a little bit is to add some healthy fats.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
