Dianna

You are so freaking crazy.

20 miles is nothing to sneeze at! I have my daughter this weekend so I'm not doing any major crazy rides.

Well maybe I'll call the neighbor girl to babysit so I can go out tomorrow. It's supposed to be gorgeous.

Okay I'm calling her. I can get in 25 miles..

Oh and by way of introducation to whomever, I've taken to road biking. I've gotten with some local clubs who say they will have me doing my first 50 mile ride before the end of the summer.

I have a 2007 Giant, OCR, Women's specific designed road bike.

LMAO!!!! 50 miles by the end of the summer...that would be sooooooooo awesome!!! I wanna do 50 miles...omg...I think I would die if I did 50 miles...we are planning a 40 mile trip, but are going to work up to it.

Well, the big inspiration is that my girlfriend and I are going on vacation in August and they have a 25 mile one way, rails to trails path on cape cod. We want to ride it. The down side is we will be renting bikes.

She too is biking in bigger chunks like you and me to get ready. When the serious biker folks told me I'd be up to 50 miles in no time, I thought Woo Hoo.

Vacation is August 4th, which is a bit sooner than the end of the summer...so we shall see.

I do have the neighbor girl coming over to babysit so I can go for a 2-3 hour ride today. I've NEVER hired a sitter so I could exercise. That's a crazy new first!

I too bought a bike this year and have enjoyed biking. That is until 2 weeks ago, I had an accident and ended up with 16 stitches in my left knee. I was so bummed, I was just starting to enjoy it. I'm not ready to get back on my bike yet. I'm going to start on the treadmill tomorrow at my gym, then I'll "graduate" to the stationary bike and see how it goes from there. I'm looking forward to getting on the open road again. I guess this is just a little bump in the road.

Alynne, I am SOOO sorry about your knee!!! What a bummer!!! That really sucks. You are so upbeat about it though. You didn't break anything did you? Were you racing????LOL....I know I try to race DH sometimes....I am sorry you had that happen, but glad you are not turned off to your bike.

Nothing broken but my budget. Got the bill from my insurance company and after they pay their portion, I owe $670. Ouch! I was not racing, the bike I got @ Wally-World has the shifting mechanism on the handlebar grips, no thumb index shifters. I think that I accidently shifted both handlebars as I was going onto the sidewalk and I biffed it. It happened so fast, I'm not sure what really happened. After the crash, I looked at my bike and the chain was half on and half off of one of the gears. I purposely got that model of bike because it didn't have the thumb index shifters, I thought it would be less likely to break off the shifters. I'm re-thinking this and will have to be careful of this when I get back in the saddle. Thanks for your concern.

ONLY 3 more semesters left, I'm sure you'll be glad when it's finally over. I wouldn't want to go back to school for anything. I put my time in over 20 years ago and don't think I could "hack it" in school at my age.

Guess what? I got back on my bike for the first time yesterday. I was a little afraid and made sure that I didn't "accidently" shift gears. I also decided to skip the treadmill at the gym and went right for the elliptical and did 1/2 a mile. Had to lower my weights a little on the lower body, but I felt real good. I'm going to go for a ride this evening after it cools down a little. I'm bound and determined to lose these last 40 or 50 pounds this year!

well, I got my new bike today!!! I ended up with a Schwinn Hybrid bike. It was at a reasonable price, and allot better to ride than my single speed old fashioned brakes in my comfort bike. I am so excited. My husband is going to see how much I like mine, and maybe get him one as well. We are doing so much more than we ever did, and we are having a good time. It is un-real that loosing weight and exercising could be so uplifting.

Thanks everyone for the support in choosing a bike......

Deanna,

You should be so proud of yourself for getting a 3.9 GPA. That's excellent. The only time I got that high of a GPA was during summer semester with only 1 or 2 classes. Not that I didn't get at least a 3.0 GPA throughout Nursing School, of course I was much younger.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
