From lapband to sleeve? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the lapband removed and done the sleeve? I am a year and a half out from my band surgery. Only lost 65 lbs. My dr. And I have done many different options. My thyroid is so messed up and I am trying to get it regulated. He said perhaps we remove the band and go to the sleeve. I am confused and don't have anyone to talk to about it. Please help.

I had band in Dec 09...just had it removed and sleeved in one surgery in Mexico. I am losing again and no stuck moments! Very happy with the decision to get band....even happier to switch to sleeve. Feeling like this time I will get to goal!

Yes I did. I had the lap band in 2012 and by earlier this year I was throwing up everything I ate. I lost about the same amount of weight with the band you did. They couldn't get me in the green zone with the fill.

I decided at the end of April to switch and had a revision from band to sleeve in one surgery on June 1st. I'm so happy with the revision. No more throwing up. The scale is moving downward. I can eat chicken again - I could never eat chicken with the band. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

And the best part is no more port in my stomach that would move and scrape on a nerve and give me a sharp stabbing pain!

I had the lap band in 2010 lost only 16 lbs, had it removed Oct 2012 Doctor said it slipped, had Sleeve done Nov 2012 lost only 20lbs. I do have hypothyroidism and diabetes. My Thyroid is under control, my diabetes it varies. I am going to see a new surgeon on Monday to see what else could be done...and what type of revision.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
