Did you guys suffer from extreme back pain before surgery to the point where you can't be standing for more than 20 mins ? If so did it go away after surgery?

I had surgery to remove part of my L5/S1 in December of 2013, had problems with sitting and standing for long periods before surgery. I have lost a total of 41 lbs and have no problems with my back at all. It is a lot easier to move and get around with the extra weight putting strain on my back:) good luck to both of you as you start your journey!!!

I have bulging disk between L5-S1 I am hoping to get approved for surgery October or November 2015. I have 100 pounds to loose and am hoping I'll have no back pain when I get to goal.

I have residual back problems due to a car accident in 2000, but slipped over winter and created new issues. What I noticed is that the weight I dropped in the weeks leading up to my pre-op diet, and during the Pre-op diet have helped the recent pain to diminish significantly. Hoping that some of the older pain will dissipate overtime as well due to the weight loss.

omg I'm glad you're okay aside from the back pain!! & I used to think it was the epidural that messed up my back but I'm starting to believe it's all this extra weight I have

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
