I am 13 days post op and for the last three days I've been experiencing really bad acid reflux. Any suggestions on controlling it? I can't get the recommended fluids in and I'm still on the full liquid phase.

Have you talked to your doctor? I was on IV Pepcid in the hospital and I was also having acid issues when I got home. I went to the drug store and bought the chewable Pepcid complete. When I went back to the doctor I was telling him about it and he realized he forgot to prescribe an antacid for me. It's 4x as strong as the one I bought in the store and I feel much better. Good luck to you!

Yep! I have it daily so I take Zantac daily. Best thing ever! Controls all the acid reflux pain!

I'm six months out and still on Protonix as prescribed by my surgeon. I have gone from taking it every day to taking it every other day and hope to eventually not need it. I did suffer from gerd before surgery so I might have to continue taking it if my acid reflux comes back after being tapered off Protonix.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
