Im just starting with the gastric sleeve journey. I talked with my PCM and we have both decided this would be good for me. I want to have the surgery at Keesler but I need a doctor who does the surgery. Has anyone had this procedure done at Keesler? And who did you use or how did you find your doctor? Im so new to this and Im a little lost. lol I have tricare prime and I know if I want to be covered for this surgery I will have to go to a MTF. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

most military facilities make you attend a MOVE program where you go once a week for a weigh in for six months. Also if I were you I would think very hard about whether or not you really want to have it done there. I was in the Military and had to have surgery twice and they nearly killed me both times.

Nikkibear I really don't have much of a choice on where I have it done. For my insurance to cover it, I will have to have it done there. Cant afford the 20% out of pocket. I do know that Keesler has done this procedure several times. As far as really wanting the surgery, I do. Im currently taking 5 shots per day along with 2 oral meds for diabetes, cholesterol meds and BP meds. caradid (cant spell) surgery on the left side of my neck and I was only 40 when that was done. Im 46 now. I want to be healthy and see my grandchildren grow up. I know this is a lifestyle change and Im ready for it. Thank you for the reply but all I can do is pray that I get a doctor with a keen eye and steady hand. Good luck on your journey.

Welcome @@mrs.rudy2 and congrats on making the decision to have the surgery! We all are here seeking the healthy life you are hoping for, so I wish you the best of luck! You're young and you have a good long life ahead of you!

I can't help on how to go about choosing a doctor question, as in my program I too must use their in house surgeon. But I'm quite happy with who I ended up with.

Its been awhile since I last posted. I am now going through the process of getting my referrel processed at kessler. Got my fingers crossed that it wont be long. I have finally had my sleep study and discovered I have sleep apnea. I just thought it was allergies making me snore. lol Im really excited to have this surgery and also a little scared as well. But reading through some of the posts on here has helped.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
