New journey, hope it works

Recommended Posts

Hello I am thinking about getting the gastric sleeve. I wanted to know the difference between the bypass and the sleeve. I'm a little nervous. I see a GI nutritionist next week to start the process then I will find out how many classes I have to take before the actual surgery. Can any one give me advise or things I should know?

Congrats!

First of all, don't "hope it works" because the surgery itself will not work if you don't help it along. You are the ultimate factor on whether it works or not. You will still have to eat properly, try to get some exercise, and change your whole outlook about food. It's not easy, but so worth it if you can get the proper mindset to utilize the tool given to you correctly.

I'm not saying that to scare you, lol. Just hoping you're as prepared as possible for what's ahead. Mostly great things, but a lot of hard work. Both emotional and physically.

If you're up for the challenge, the sky is the limit!! And I can't wait to see where this journey will take you! I get inspired every single day by people who have done this.

Keep us posted!

When I was trying to decide, I went on YouTube and watched what seems like hundreds of videos from people who had had the different surgeries.

There are 3 main types, bypass, band, sleeve.

There is a lot of information available online.

Of course the other thing is which one your doctor would advise you to have. My doctor now primarily does the sleeve. He said it has the best results with the least amount of problems. Especially problems with absorbtion (sp) of nutrients.

To me, it is the least invasive. I didn't want a hunk of plastic inside me. Besides the fact that the band could slip, there is the idea of having them poke me in the tummy to find the "port" to adjust the band, when needed. I have a problem with needles LOL Also, the stomach is still all there.

The bypass does just that. They cut apart stomach and intestines and bypass the major portion of the stomach, but, the stomach is still there and still shooting out the "hungries".

I actually like the idea of 85% of my stomach being cut away and taken out. I will have control back!

Some people don't like that idea and that is fine. Everyone has to find their comfort zone.

Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
