Shrinking Body and Confidence

Recommended Posts

I notice as I continue to lose weight I am slightly less confident than I was before. I am getting more comfortable in my new skin, but it is taking longer than I thought. I was a very confident plus size lady. My expectation was that I would become smaller and my confidence would increase. I'm down 85 pounds from my heaviest weight in almost 4 months and I'm ecstatic! I just want my confidence to be where it once was.

Is there anyone else who can identify with this? If so, how did you deal with the issue?

Wow you just posted my current worries. I feel like when I lose weight I am going to lose some of my identity. I have always been that pretty, well put together big girl. I don't want to be some cookie cutter chick. I like standing out. I am outgoing and vivacious with a big personality.

I feel like after I slim down I might have to reinvent myself or really work to adjust to a new outward persona that people see.

Maybe it won't be that dramatic, but it has been something that has crossed my mind.

I can't wait to read the responses.

Fake it till you make it.

The outside changes are plainly evident, plus you have other people constantly affirming them with compliments.

The inside changes are tougher to ferret out sometimes, as they're uniquely personal. Give it time. You're like a chameleon right now, in a constant mode of transformation. You don't recognize yourself in the mirror so it's no wonder you're questioning who you are. It'll get better.

Thanks for all the responses! @@OutsideMatchInside I was the "Big girl" who was cute and dressed really well. Now my friends have revoked my "Big Girl Card" and I'm navigating my way through the non-plus size side of the store, in addition to sizing out of Lane Bryant. So, I'm just having to adjust to my new life and it is taking time and work. We went to a wedding this weekend and my old neighbor didn't recognize me...I'm glad I was with my husband and she finally figured it out..

These are not bad things, just different. I am very happy with these changes, but they are uncomfortable. I'm hoping it's like being sleeved and my life adjusts soon enough! Until then like @@Nickkibear24 said, I'll fake it until it happens!

Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
