Four+ weeks out, have been hungry all weekend

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm a first-time poster, and I'm a little worried. I'm eating solids now, but still drink a shake or 2 a day to make sure I have the right amount of Protein. That was going fine, and then since yesterday, I've been feeling bottomless, like I did before. I'll eat or drink something and it will go away, but the empty gnawing feeling is back 30 minutes to an hour later. Is this normal, and does it get better?

Also, I've been on prilosec otc since before surgery. I added a prevacid complete in the afternoons. I'm not sure if this is acid, my stomach healing, or a sign that I'll still forever be thinking about my next meal, which is what I wanted to stop so badly.

I am experiencing many of these same things! Constantly hungry when everyone said i wouldn't be...does that mean something is wrong? Taking Pepcid also - what dose are you taking? Is Zantac any better?

An irritated stomach which Is healing and the head hunger everyone talks about are two things that come to mind. Make sure your are get your Protein First which will help satiety. Keep busy and away from the kitchen. I never realized how much time I used to spend buying, thinking about food and preparing and eating food. It was my whole world! I had to make significant behavioral changes to support my new lifestyle. It does get easier so keep working your program and get into a support group if there's one in your city. Best of luck and keep posting.

I would recommend upping your Protein intake. I know every doctor says different things but you will NEVER be able to eat enough Protein in solid foods. You should be getting in 90-120gms daily. When I am not consistent with my protein I get hungry. I see so many people posting about using Protein shakes as a supplemental thing and the truth is, your food is supplemental.

Try to drink through this because it does go away. I take a couple hours to get my morning shake down and that helps. In the beginning the only meal that kept me full was refried Beans or mashed potato which I was allowed to have. Be careful though because they are higher in carbs so long term I would not advise but it's ok at the stage you are at

maybe that's my problem. I drink really fast. I try to drink my shake on the way to work, and it only takes me 20 minutes to get there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
