sjfink 239 Posted July 19, 2015 I had my surgical consult and first NUT visit on 7/13, psych eval on 7/16, and hoping to have final insurance approval so we can set a date in the next week or so (I hear that by this point in the process, my insurance is pretty quick to approve). Tomorrow is a fitness assessment, which I'm doing by phone... kind of odd, but I guess we're just going to talk about my prior workout experience and what I'm doing now. I still need to go in for a chest x-ray and baseline labs, which I'm planning to do some time this week. Things seem to be going smoothly, so hopefully it'll stay that way and I'll be able to get the surgery date that I want... 9/8/15! Now for the questions! I live alone and will be staying one night post-surgery at the surgical center. I've got lots of friends and family that live nearby (many within 3 blocks), but I'm wondering if I should be planning to have someone stay with me for a couple of days or if it will be enough to just have people checking in. I'm not so worried about during the day, more about the first night or two. Anybody do this while living alone? Is anyone else planning for an early or mid September surgery date? It's great reading about people who are a bit ahead, but hoping to find friends going through this together! And if anyone has any experience with Puget Sound Bariatrics, I'd love to hear about your experience!
The Candidate 3,215 Posted July 20, 2015 I would take advantage of the friends and family and make arrangements. You can always change your mind later and just go home, but this way you're covered. Good luck!
Soapandcandlequeen 124 Posted July 26, 2015 Yeah I agree, plan for someone to stay with you for a few days just in case. Even someone to just grab you a Water. Not bad I g to keep getting up and down helps
sjfink 239 Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks for the input. I got my surgery date, September 8th! Of course, my sister's in-laws are coming to visit from England on 9/9, so my original plan to stay with her have changed. I've got a friend to stay with me my first night or two at home and another friend keeping tabs on me during the day. I think I'll be ok!
cjnorris 103 Posted July 29, 2015 I was in the same place. I did take advantage of having my friend with me. Mostly for just support and knowing she was there. It was more for support. So glad I did. She is my strongest supporter.
natnat919 165 Posted July 29, 2015 I live alone..... I'm very independent and didn't really want anyone hovering over me. So my brother picked me up at the hospital and dropped me off at home. I stayed alone and was completely fine. Just make sure you plan ahead and have everything you need at arm's reach without too much fuss.
