December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone. I am new to this forum. I will get sleeved January 22. Very excited, but nervous. I start my pre-op liquid diet on January 8. I have only told my kids, my mom, and a couple of siblings. I told my kids (age 33,27,24,15) today--the boys didn't say much, one girl positive and one girl negative. My husband is ok with it, but has not said much. Hoping to find encouragement and friends who understand on this site. My insurance does not cover the surgery, so I am self pay. Therefore, I will be traveling to Cancun, Mexico for the procedure. It is about 1/3 of the cost. One of my sisters is a nurse and will travel with me. I look forward to getting to know each of you and hope I can encourage you also.

Hi, CMC:

I am also traveling to Mexico for surgery- Tijuana. My nephew and 2 cousins had surgery at the particular center that I am going to. Christmas has been a bit hard for me - losing weight. I have only gained 1/2 a pound considering everything!

I know what you mean about support. My daughter was not very supportive in the beginning but now is totally on board. Of course, my sister and nephew are and have been my main support so far. They are both traveling with me to Mexico. My daughter would love to go with me but has 3 small children at home and won't be able to leave them for that long.

You are fortunate that your sister is a nurse and traveling with you. She will be a great assistant on you recovery.

As you know, we all need encouragement. Stay strong and we will both have a WONDERFUL 2016.

I made it through Christmas dinner only eating about an ice cream scoop of mashed, 2 small bites of turkey, some rice pudding and a sliver of pumpkin pie (only ate the filling).

Oh... And of course a Protein Shake and lots of Water.< /p>

Not bad.

You are not alone in feeling that way. I keep comparing complication rates with bypass and sleeve like its going to change. I can't help thinking this way but all I tell myself is it will be okay then I look at the number of people that are so happy with there progress and figure that will be me soon????.

I also am having a bit of nerves but I have no doubts as to getting the surgery.

My best to you for your surgery on the 30th, Cherri and yours, Taylor on the 14th of Jan.

The pre op liquid diets goal is to shrink your liver so the surgeon can see what he or she is doing in there. Not sticking to the liquid diet can have two potential negative effects.

1. You might be switched from laparoscopic surgery to open surgery which means more scars and longer recovery time.

2. Your surgery might get delayed which is both costly and inconvenient.

It's a rough 2 weeks, but what is about to happen to you is pretty significant... I wouldn't pick now to bend any rules or make any calls you aren't sure about. Complications are expensive and often times painful and might also mean more missed time from work or delay your full mobility.

I'd stick to the shakes and the calorie free, caffeine free drinks.

You only get one body. Do your best to start this journey on the right foot.

It doesn't get easier for a while. So the sooner you can start the hard stuff, the sooner you'll finish it.

Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
