Mine wasn't too bad -6.4. I was on Metformin only though on the max dose. Sugars ran a little high day of surgery (up to 190 that I was aware of) but surgeon released me the next day WITHOUT metformin and said to just watch my sugars. My morning fasting runs around 104 and had been closer to 130 per-op with meds

@RNY yup it sure is, at 12:30 I'm scheduled to be asleep while the surgeons work, looks like we will both be waking up on the other side in less than 9 days.

My A1C was 8.4 before bypass on June 10th. I had been on insulin pump for 10 years. One week after surgery I met with diabetes team. I was taken off pump and went on Levemir at bedtime and started Metformin liquid. Hoping to reduce Levemir and increace Metformin as tolerated. My hope is as I get closer to my goal to be able to discontinue all diabetic meds and control blood sugars with diet and exercise.

One of my pre-op requirements included meeting with an endocrinologist (something I had never done but wish I had). She helped alot with adjusting medications. I also have been working with a diabetes educator for many years.

Also my blood sugars dropped a lot the day after surgery. So much that I had to turn down my pump dose. My surgeon said they know blood sugars change dramatically after surgery but there are no studies yet to explain why.

My A1C was close to 10 before surgery and I was taking four oral medications plus long acting insulin to control it. Stopped taking it all immediately after surgery and it was down to 7 at two months post surgery. My endocrinologist started me on Januvia again only because studies show long term results to control blood sugar levels are better with one medication (usually they choose metformin, but I can't tolerate it.). Dr. said if my A1C continues to drop she will stop all diabetes meds again. Good luck.

@@Dreamweaver103 Isn't it great to be able to give up so many medications? I also was able to quit blood pressure med and cut cholesterol med in half.

I just got a nice invite to a private fb group that literally divided up by the month you have surgery! Awesome if anyone is interested and has FB let me know and I'll forward your email address to get you invited (only way to gain access). But great to talk to people on there too that are specifically undergoing this surgery at the same time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
