Janice1968 92 Posted July 19, 2015 I am 9 months out and I'm very tired, my hemoglobin has dropped from 13.8 to 11.2 My Iron is at 40. I am on Bariatric Advantage Vitamins with iron. Been thinking about taking Geritol liquid as well. Any thoughts?
rosepose 105 Posted July 19, 2015 I'm sure that the nutritionist would have better advice, however as someone who also struggles with anemia, I use the Celebrate chewable with Iron and then boost that with a Bariatric Advantage Iron chew (the chocolate raspberry chew) and it got me up to normal before the surgery. She also says to make sure that I do not take any of the iron containing supplements along with Calcium as Calcium blocks the iron absorption. So does coffee and Fiber fyi. Taking it shortly before a meat based Protein meal is probably to your best advantage. I have been very fatigued since the surgery but I'm still only a month out and my nut says that's because I am having issues getting enough calories in. We'll be checking the iron again in a month and a half though and hopefully it will still be normal then.
Jenschmitz 1 Posted August 26, 2015 I've seen Dr Rutledge on his YouTube videos talk about Proferrin. It's a pain to get to me (Australia) think, so I just stick to normal Iron supplements. I take them with juice too. Vit c and iron go hand in hand. You could have a rare steak and cut it into small pieces ... Hmm that'll be my most favourite way of iron! Nutri-chew is a multiviatam available in Australia, my dietician recomends it as it has high levels of iron, it is chewable, you can buy it online as well I was using it when I had the lap band in, I stopped for a while as I thought I didn't need it, my iron dropped to buggery (which is really uncommon for men) and was really fatigued, I finished up having an iron infusion to get my iron back up Edited October 18, 2015 by Trevor
