Surgery date: April 22 - 412 lbs

April 30th - 387lbs

May 26 - 365.7lbs

June 18 - 345.6lbs

July 21 - 334lbs

Next appointment is July 21 - by doctors estimates I should be 338lbs, but I'm actually at 330lbs now.

The progression has been relatively smooth. I have followed the doctors recommendation 98%.

Biggest issues/challenges and adjustments have been:

1. Chewing food up more and eating slower ... Previously i guess i was eating fast and virtually swallowing food whole, lol.

2. Recognizing when my new stomach is full and mentally accepting that it only takes 1/8th the amount of food that i previously ate to get me full.

3. Taking all of the Multivitamins

The Benefits (which far outweigh any issues) have been:

1. Better health

2. Reduced medications

3. Weight loss

4. I look and feel better

5. For the first time i can goto the regular section in clothing stores and fit 3x shirts instead of 6x. I can fit 46/48 Waist pants instead of 56 waist. This was and has always been a goal of mine... I wanted to be able to walk into a store and buy regular clothes.

I haven't come completely off of all meds, like some have but I'll take a 50% reduction any day... Also, some of the strengths of my meds have been reduced. (250mg to 150mg, etc. )

My doctors office has been great... The support system is awesome. Helping me with finding healthier Snacks and meals. Emails and questions answered and returned promptly. I think the after care is 75% — 80% of the battle. To date i don't have any loose skin... I have been in the gym working out potential problem areas and I have been very successful.

I am by means no expert... But If i can answer any questions or help make this journey easier for anyone, just message me.

Congratulations on your journey so far. :D

It's great when we get such good support from our Doctor's too.. Mine have been amazing as well, very supportive and quick to do what was needed. Your progression seems ideal, I only hope and pray i can do the same after my surgery on Thursday of next week (23/07)

Keep Smiling!

Kate

Thank you, I'm sure you will do fine... Changing your mind set is the key... If i crave sweets or something similar... I drink Water or eat something healthy and this fills me up and i don't have that craving anymore.

Big boys have more to lose. Surgery date 4/24/15. Pre-op weight 502. 3 months out 7/24/15 weight 392. Weight loss in 3 months 110#s but I hate the stalls. Ultimate goal is 280 which would be 222#s. Doc says give it 2 years. I sure would like to do it faster.

Honestly, i stall slightly... But that's when i increase cardio and Water intake. I also don't mind it slow and steady... For me it has made loose skin non existent

Your doing great Tex

I've noticed my short stalls come from decreased Water intake and increased juice and sugary drinks... Not necessarily to many calories but just not enough water veggies. I was at 330 something for the longest... I had to be honest with my self to see what i might be doing differently from when i was loosing more.. And the washer and veggies seemed to be the culprit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
