So I got sleeved on the 14th of July and I haven't even once thought of food. That in itself is amazing. Well today I found myself missing food. And telling myself that I did the wrong thing because I loved to eat. I think most of it was because I was at a cookout and they had almost all of my favorites and everyone kept asking why I wasn't eating. Well that sent me into slight sadness. I know my relationship with food was a very dangerous one before the surgery. But this is like uncharted Water here. I hope tomorrow is an easier day. I hope it's not like this torture very much longer.

About a week after I was sleeved, I found myself on Pinterest salivating over "food porn." I must've looked at 50 different kinds of donuts DAILY. I told my dr & nut and they said I was experiencing the withdrawal from those carbs I used to chow down on prior to this experience.

I liken looking at food porn to being in mourning because for as long as I can remember that kind of food has been a big part of my identity; one day I was able to eat it and the next day I was not and I had to come to grips with the fact that I had to change my mindset and attitude. That's a hard thing to do sometimes.

Don't feel sad. Feel good that soon you'll have such masterful control over what goes in your mouth, you'll feel empowered. Just wait until you really see results! It gets even better.

I still venture into cupcake territory on Pinterest but it's not nearly as bad as it was. I also love to bake so I'm always looking for ideas but the fact that I have the upper hand on what goes into my body.....I never thought I'd be stronger than those sugary, carb-laden treats but I am. And you will be too..you'll find yourself impervious to your former triggers.

A little over 8 weeks post-op here and I still have passing thoughts in my head of food. Foods I can' t have, foods I used to eat and I know it is just in my head. I have tried to identify when this happens and it tends to happen in situations when I would have mindlessly eaten before. I try to get my mind busy doing something else and I find the thoughts go away. The surgery helps our stomachs but not our heads, we have to work through those issues.

I find checking in on BPAL and attending support groups a big help.

I'm not saying I never ever touch those old vices but I most defiantly have much better control. Changing a lifestyle isn't easy but it's well worth it. You guys will do a-ok! ☺️

My taste buds have changed so much and being off carbs I seldom miss my old junkie food. I think you will be amazed at your changes as you travel your journey. Best of luck

Those first two weeks post-op I realized just how many hamburger commercials are on TV. I just wanted to chew. But I didn't -- I stayed on the full liquids and advanced my diet according to my surgeons's instructions. Just tell yourself that you did this to make that major lifestyle change, and that you WILL get through this time.

It will take time for your emotional relationship with food to change. And the more effort you put into changing your lifestyle from " food centered" to " health centered" and all the things you can do to support that, the better off you'll be! I've found that pre planning my menus and looking for healthy versions on the bariatric food blogs has turned my focus from " can't to can! I have to be alert so my body doesn't go back to gaining mode. Also exercising. 5-6 days a week to support and increase weight loss keeps me busy. Believe me, nature wants to get me back to my old weight because that's what our bodies tend to want- homeostasis ( not change).

I am laughing because I have been watching cooking shows and posting recipes on face book. I call it food porn. Somehow dreaming of eating gives me comfort. The emotional side of this journey is very real. I think it sets in that you will never eat the same way again. I was a little sad when I saw an ad for national cheesecake day. I love cheesecake and it's half off cheesecake at the cheesecake factory. Pre surgery I would have planned my week around that. Lol.

When I get head hunger, and just can't escape it's nagging, I eat meat, chicken or pork first to fill me up and retrain my brain to associate meat with head hunger. After eating Protein, and I still have that nagging little voice, I will allow myself a small portion (remember I'm physically full from the protein), about 1/2 a coffee cup (a real coffee cup, not a Starbucks Grande!) of whatever I'm craving. I'm normally satisfied after that.

You cracked me up Snapdragon05 I to grew up baking beside mom and grandma so baking is just pure joy as well as the eating!! I'm only 7 days out post op but doing great. Really no issues . I was looking at food porn as well earlier and then waited for my husband to fall asleep so I could get up and bake him a special birthday cake. Although the eating of the final product was always the the best part, I find I totally enjoy seeing others enjoy what I have cooked or baked for them. ????????

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
