I have been told by 2 different nurses during pre-op meetings that my husband and I should use 2 forms of birth control during the first 18 months after my surgery. We do NOT need another baby at our age (and it's dangerous for me due to another health issue). I have an IUD already, so there's not much options for a second form. I'm debating using an ovulation app or something too. Has anyone else been given this advice?

My band to sleeve surgery is Monday, so please keep me in your prayers if you think about it. I am quickly becoming overwhelmed with emotions and anxiety.

Thanks!

My doctor said that those were the best options. she said that the pill wont work but I have PCOS so birth conrol serves no purpose for me, plus im not married and the horizontal dance does not appeal to me so i guess abstinence is the best lol . But you should be ok with your IUD and condoms

I don't know that you can safely use two birth control methods unless one of them is a physical prophylactic like a condom, diaphragm, or cervical cap. You can't take the pill AND use an IUD, you'll introduce too many hormones to your system. Unless the IUD is hormone free.

I think you're ok with just the IUD. I have one and haven't managed to get pregnant yet (as I intend it to be for awhile!) and I don't use a secondary method because I'm in a monogamous LTR.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
