I am trying to get prepared for surgery which is on Aug 11. I want to get my Vitamins and Protein powders and shakes before hand. What is the best Multivitamin that I need to take? Also, what are good protein powders that I can add to my liquids? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks!

Best is a subjective term. What works for me may not work for you. Talk to your nutritionist. They should be able to give you some guidelines as to type and dosage amount. Some doctor's are okay with gummies, some aren't. Some people like chewables, some don't. Most doctor's require calcium citrate, not carbonate. I used a plant based whole food multi by KIND that I crushed and hid in almond butter. Once I was allowed to swallow I settled on Centrium.

Their are a several different Protein powders. Many like the RTD Premier Protein, I don't. There is also unjury, Jarrow, Isopure, Syntrax to name just a few. I even use CVS brand for a while. I prefer powder over RTD, and unflavored over flavored. Try doing a search on Protein powders. There are many threads on the subject.

I bought Vitamins, in my case bariatric branded following my NUTs recommendations. I would not buy lots of Protein drinks because some find that they can't stand them after surgery, me being one of them. I also have to take Calcium but could not stand the chewables and ended up getting calcium citrate Petites, which are big but can be swallowed.

I love the EAS Protein Powder (24g per serving) I get at Target. I mix it 50-50 with powdered milk, to cut the thickness. It just makes it more drinkable.

I was just researching Vitamins the other night. It looks like opurity are the best because it's just one per day and it covers everything except Calcium, so no need for extra B12 or Vitamin D. With anything else you will most likely need to take two per day and supplement B12 and Vitamin D. They were reasonably priced too. You can order them from Opurity.com.

I was also researching unflavored Protein powders to add to Soups and yogurt and other foods. unjury seems to be a really popular choice. I'm pretty sure opurity.com also had that. I decided to go with Syntrax nectar from Amazon. It had great reviews and was cheaper than Unjury but had pretty much the same nutritional info.

I got Vitamins at GNC and calcium chews at CVS. I bought the EAS Protein Powder because it was on sale. I also got a couple of bottles of Isopure in case I have problems with the Protein powders. I agree with everyone else, figure out what works for your stomach and budget. This stuff can get expensive quickly.

I also only bought 2 week worth of Protein powders/drinks. Some people find their taste buds change post-op. Others find they can do milk based drinks and switch to protein waters and drinks instead. Whatever you buy save your receipts. Most places allow you to return unused portions if you have a valid receipt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
