Drinking more liquids than I was told I could on day 5 post op

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 5 post op. I'm able to drink plenty of fluids, more than I was told I would be able to and not really having any trouble unless I drink too fast. I hope this is ok.

It is fine...if you are able to get your daily intake accomplished then begin to work on your Protein amounts

after day 3, fluids were never an issue....If I have haven't eaten I can drink as much Water as I want. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones...my surgeon on the first 2 post op visits was only concerned about liquids. He told me about 20% of his patients are like me, basically no restriction on fluids, good restriction on solid foods.

I am day 3 Post op and I too can drink all that I want without pain. I do sip pretty frequently. Also, this morning I was able to eat thinned greek yogurt for Breakfast. I probably should have measured, but I ate the entire 5.3 oz container in the course of an hour. For lunch, I had butternut squash Soup, about 1/3 cup, then for dinner 4 T of Broccoli Soup. Also sipped on Protein shake in between.

I suppose I was so worried about dehydration and feeling weak from lack of Protein that I remained focused and intent. Hopefully I'm not doing anything to hurt myself! But just to be safe, tomorrow I will measure everything... can't be too careful!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
