Afraid of inability to consume so much water

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I'm new to this site as of today!! I have a lot of reservations about being able to consume the required amount of Water on a daily basis

I'm not much of a water drinker to begin with. Afraid of dehydration.

The thought of having to consume at least 64oz a day for the rest of my life scares me!!

@@Pastano Well get un-afraid because to be honest I don't get 64 oz of Water in a day 8 months post-op and I'm still alive! It's a goal. We strive for it but you won't die if you don't make that number every single day.

I normally drink (pre-surgery) about 90 ounces of Water per day. 64 ounces should be easy for me.

Tips I've picked up on is to drink consistently throughout the day. Small sips here and there add up quickly and next thing you know you've gotten down 64 ounces.

Keep your spirits up!!

I thought that, too. I used to drink 128 oz a day. Now I can barely tolerate 20 oz. Plain Water hits my tummy like a brick. Ugh...

Keep in mind, other things you consume throughout the day count toward your Water consumption. My NUT explained to me that if you eat sugar free Jello or sugar free ice pops, it counts as part of the 64 ounces...so don't panic, we will all figure it out together! ????

Actually, whether you have surgery or not you should be drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. It is more of a challenge immediately after surgery but doable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
