Kinda losing my mind thanks to insurance....

Recommended Posts

This is somewhat of a rant I suppose but ughhh I don't know what else to do .... I live in CT and am on the states insurance because I qualified and my job insurance does not cover WLS at all. Since I started with the state insurance I have received letters stating I no longer qualify so I go through the process of calling, speaking with someone, correcting what is usually there mistake on my paper work for them to tell me I'm good, I qualify again and am covered... just for 2 months to pass and I get another letter stating I no longer qualify.... And the process starts again. I started this journey in March and this has happened 4x since then. I have a heart attack each time thinking OMG if I lose this insurance I will never be able to have this surgery. I got another letter stating I no longer qualify last week, again I called fixed the income level they screwed up requalified but I am terrified something is gonna go wrong and insurance will deny me. I am literally the most stressed out I have ever been over this! I have 1 more NUT visit & about 8lbs to lose before my paperwork will be submitted to insurance for approval which I am hoping will happen in August and I can be scheduled for a Sept surgery. I have worked soooo hard to get to this point and it is so scary to think at any moment insurance can change everything. Anyone else experiencing this anxiety?!? Or these kind of insurance issues?? Thanks for allowing me to vent ????

My surgeons office had a big snafu with how they submitted my paperwork. Their insurance coordinator went on maternity leave and they dropped the ball in a major way. It all worked out in the end and I got my surgery. Hang in there and stay on top of things as much as you can. It WILL happen and you will look back on this from the other side. Good luck!!

This must be such a stressful time for you, I really do hope its sorted out soon and you get it booked. We can't get it via insurance here in England, its either National Health Service or private. I was told I would have to wait 3 years to have it done on the NHS so I am going down the private route, which has been stress free. I can't imagine having to go through all of what you do to get the surgery !!

Hugs

Kate

My process was long, but I never ran into the kind of snafus you did. And I'm so sorry you are experiencing them! Sometimes tackling insurance is like gearing up to bust through a brick wall, only to discover there's another one right behind it once you do.

I sure hope things improve for you. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
