Really? Awesome!!!! Congratulations. Are you working through a program through Scrips?

I am waiting for Insurance Approval and my Surgery Date. I will be having mine at Alvarado Hospital.

How are you feeling? Did you have to do a 6 month supervised diet? Are you on an all liquid diet before surgery?

My program was called Options and is through Kaiser Permanente. It took nearly a year, including 24 weeks of classes and having to lose 10% of my weight. Having waited so long it's kind of surreal that I'm finally so close to my surgery date!

I actually live in North County, but Kaiser, in my particular area, contracts out to Pacific Bariatric in SD and all bariatric surgery is done at Scripps.

I am only required to do one day of liquids. I think that might be because of already having lost the 10%. But it does make things easier.

I feel exactly like I did when I first made the decision to have surgery, in equal parts elated, nervous, hopeful, eager, and above all else, happy. As I've never had surgery I'm, of course, a bit apprehension about the unknown from time to time. But I am 100% certain that this is the right step for me. And as I've overloaded on research this past year, I honestly feel I couldn't be more ready!

How about you? What led you here and how are you feeling? ????

Wow! Here i am complaining about having to do a 6 month supervised diet and their are others out there doing more work than i am being asked.

The complaint comes from years of obesity and yo-yo dieting. As i am sure many can relate. Every WLS program is different, especially due to all different Health Insurance Companies but, we are all in it for the same result. The opportunity for a second chance in living a healthy life.

I don't know you but, i am beyond happy and excited for you. I bet you have worked hard to get to this point. Congratulations again on your surgery! I can understand that you might be nervous about the surgery. Have faith that everything will be great. Most nurses are great at walking you through the process. Again! So happy for you! You definitely sound ready. I can feel your energy from just reading your replies.

I been over weight since i can remember. I've heard of WLS for a while but could never afford it and was never eligible under my previous Health Insurance. I can honestly say i am glad it didn't happen till now. I also feel I could not be more ready than i am now. I too have researched, and studied ways to be a healthier person. I am so grateful for everything I've learned thats going to help me stay focused and on a healthy track after surgery. I share the same feelings as you. Nervous excited! Grateful and anxious for the changes that are coming.

It's not complaining, it's frustration, at the idea of being asked to adhere to yet another diet when you've, as we all have, tried and failed at them so many times in the past. Trust me, I felt the same way in the beginning. I knew the reasons behind the requirement were twofold: to shrink your liver to make it easier for the surgeon when operating, and to ensure that you're serious about changing your eating habits and lifestyle as a post op. I'm sure you know the spiel. ????. Still waiting is waiting, and there's just no way around it.

Like you I've been fat for most of my life. I'd just about given up on ever being able to shed the weight, and more importantly, keep it off long term. Just the hope that has been reawakened in my soul since starting this journey, has been worth everything I had to go through to get to this point now, where I'm finally counting down in days instead of months and weeks. It's so invigorating! I'd do this last year over again in a second, if I had to. I hope I never take this 2nd chance at life for granted!

I'm just as excited for you too. It's not going to be easy, but what great thing in life worth having isn't? We both have such amazing futures ahead of us. I can't wait to see what's in store!

Hey! Did you have your surgery? I been thinking about you since you told me. Guess what? I changed surgeons and now with Pacific Batriatic. I met with Dr. Tanaka.. Seems like a very sweet and knowledgeable man. His staff is pretty helpful too. I met with the Internist. He cleared me for surgery. Now i am waiting for a staff member to call me to schedule the surgery at Mercy. I am excited and nervous.

How did it go? Any advice you can give me for after the surgery? I'm trying to organize myself to figure out what i need to buy for Post Op.. So I won't have to go out. Any advice will help. I hope you are recovering smoothly. Prayers and hugs.

Yes, I had my surgery on 07/29, and my surgeon was Dr. Tanaka too! Just had my one week follow up yesterday. If you have any questions just let me know.

Don't worry though, you're in excellent hands! Congrats!

How long did the whole process take? Does SD make you have any previous weight loss attempts documented?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
