I just had a EGD last week and I am required to have another in 8 weeks because the found I had a food allergy. They prescribed me Prilosec and said that should take care of the problem. I still have 1.5 months of the required 3 month dietician so thats no problem. Im so anxious to get this process over with so I can get to the approval process! I also have to do a sleep study next month so September will be an appointment filled month for me. Wish me luck!

I started a file for myself on the process. I received a packet that included all the requirements before requesting an approval. I asked my surgeon why am I waiting and he said majority of the insurance companies want to see if the patient went through all the steps. I called my insurance company and asked questions for myself. They confirmed what the surgeon told me plus which procedure they would approve for me.

Don't be afraid to ask questions!

I did not have to remove any clothes or anything, just laid on my side and was OUT, I guess in recovery my husband said I spoke of the 70s ( how funny). I woke up and they said it is time to leave- the nurse told hubby she is hard to wake up and he said she doesn't sleep well but took advantage today.

It really was nothing, I was more afraid they would find something that would keep me from the surgery and there was none.

You will do great

@@lmm300missouri I remember I was not "out" for my EGD. But it didn't bother me. I think I just got enough twilight sleep drugs to take the edge off. I remember it all. But didn't care. HA! I didn't have to remove my clothes, just my hoodie jacket. I have had a totally uneventful recovery, and I have lost quite a bit of weight. My only tip is to get yourself some Miralax that dissolves in Water. The pain meds cause severe Constipation. That is the only complication I had. At week 3 I had a twinge in my large incision occasionally. That is normal. I was just healing. No more twinges after week 6. Best of luck to you! But you won't need it. Your doctors are the VERY best of the VERY best. We are lucky to have them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
