Surgery on July 15 - hating my life right now

Recommended Posts

I'm in the post surgery blues. The pain is pretty tolerable, but it hurts my pouch every time I swallow. I'm nowhere close to the goals they gave us.

How long until you could swallow without difficulty? I'm hating myself for doing this right now.

The first week was rough for me. It is very normal to be miserable 2 days post op, but by this time next week you should be feeling pretty okay. I was told not to worry about any of the goals (except for fluids) until after my first postop visit. All I had to worry about was sipping, sipping, sipping. You need to make very sure you don't get dehydrated. You will feel even worse than you do now if you do!

Hang in there. Believe me, it really does get better! :)

I totally feel your pain! I am a little over two weeks out and was questioning myself for at least the first 12 days. It's a roller coaster of emotions especially because I haven't physically felt loss even though the scale has told me I have. I also loathed the liquids only phase. On Monday I get to start my final phase and eat more normal foods. I'm so glad! I just want to chew! Lol. Actually I really want deli meat (turkey or roast beef) and cheese. That just sounds so good!! Sorry, food tangent.

Anyway, it will get better it just feels like forever the first few weeks.

What happening is normal I'm almost 5 months post op sleeve yes I had trouble swallowing could only do tiny sips was really aggravating lol yes it's uncomfortable it gets better as time goes by I found that warm drinks and broth went down better or me the first three weeks or so it took me a few weeks to be able to drink somewhat normally and without the slight discomfort in my throat and stomach but I'm down a 100lbs since surgery it really is a process and it takes getting used to and then slowly it will get better I promise it feels like it won't at the time but it will just do what your dr tells u and drink drink drink it's honestly like a job at first lol but u do not want to get dehydrated and go to the hospital

@@shellyd88 wow! Good for you! It's hard to imagine losing that kind of weight. It's still pretty early for me but I guess I imagined it "falling off" with such a small intake of food but it's not. Any tips to be successful?

I started a SECRET Facebook Group (closed, nobody can see you are there) For July 2015 people only. I hope this can expand as a individualized community so we can help each other out through the same stages of this journey. I hope you can join. (1) The only way to join is to send email invites, not a link. You will need to private-message me your email address, the one linked to your FaceBook profile. An email invitation for the FaceBook group will be sent to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
