Wish I could help you more. Here is my suggestion.

Look up doctors in your area on lap-band.com. It uses your zip code.

Then call , call and call.

Good luck,

edie

They accept medicaid where I am being banded. Dr.Bonomo @ Mercy hospital in Chicago. The seminars are held on the 1st Monday and Third Tuesday of the month. Call his assistant florence at 312-567-6167 so she can put you down to attend one of the seminars and get the ball rolling.:biggrin1:

Oh,I'm sorry they cancelled your appointment. When I go to my group meeting Tuesday, I'll ask and find out what's going on. So look for a post from me Tuesday evening.

Hey Shygirl.... I went to my meeting today and found out why they cancelled the seminar. Seems that Dr.Bonomo is booked until November, however there are 2 new surgeons coming aboard. Once the new Dr's are aboard they will start the seminars again, they said it shouldn't be too much longer before they start again. So, just make sure you check back with them every so often, so that you can be the 1st one in when they start back up. Hope this info helps.

Did you try Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet? I see Dr. Lahmann there, the whole group is great, I'm not sure what insurance they accept or not but it's worth a call. ~Mandy

I attended the seminar in May & then I met with Dr. Bonomo and he gave me my surgery date that same day. The tests I had had done the following months were, the sleep study, polumanary breathing test, ekg, chest x-rays, blood work, psych, nutritionist, a few other I can't remember right now. Also you have to attend a weekly meeting every Tuesday. I know it seems like a lot, but it is so worth it. I thought July would never get here, but here my surgery date is right around the corner.

A few of the ladies there were referred from the University of Chicago, they take medicaid, but the waiting list there is 1yr to get a surgery date. So make sure you keep checking back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
