What do I wear POST OP(Wks 1-6)

Recommended Posts

I have only jeans, slacks, etc. Should I get a couple of sun dresses that don't have a band around my tummy like most pants do? Suggestions please! I want to be prepared.

I was a little tender around my incisions for a bit. If your pants are tight in the waistband then yes you may want something looser until you heal. Good luck!

I wore baggy sweats for the first two weeks and after that I wore regular clothes. What ever you get just don't get a lot since they will quickly become too big. If you have a good thrift or second hand store nearby that may be a good option.

I wore jean shorts today, my incisions are all above where my pants hit. No pain and the little bit of pressure seemed to help with some gas. I had planned on wearing maxi dresses all summer, but I don't think I will have to make changes.

The bra area is a little different. I purchased a front close bra to wear to and from the hospital. Today I wore my normal underwire bra, but I had to be very careful with the positioning to make sure it did not touch my top incision which is in the middle right under my bra line.

The front close bra was really helpful for getting dressed in the hospital, it gave me uniboob but it is comfortable so you might want to invest in one.

Personally, I just wore shorts and loose tshirts. Wasn't an issue for me. Guess I was lucky.

Got sleeved on Tuesday, and I've worn only loose house dresses etc. They are most comfortable for me. Couldn't imagine jeans or tight fitting clothes. I don't anticipate wearing anything other than loose fitting clothing until I am healed.

For the first two weeks around the house I wore knit shorts or pants and loose t-shirts. When I went to church I wore a dress with no fitted waist.

Yep stretch shorts and t-shirts. Go to Goodwill and get cheap ones, because they won't fit long. :-)

I was in jeans 2 days after surgery, so everyone is different. But my doctor had me wearing a stomach binder and that helped quite a bit. So my jeans weren't rubbing or constricting at all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
