jacks89 51 Posted July 17, 2015 I received an email from my bariatric doctor saying that I need to get clearance from my PCP stating that I'm in good health to travel and for an out patient surgical procedure and also that I need to get a stress test done and pass. So I called my PCP about it and they were so impolite so I just want to know if this is the norm. They said they could send a note clearing me to travel but they can't send the clearance for the surgery until 10 days before the actual surgery date. I told them I don't have a surgery date yet because I'm still doing paperwork but that the doctor's office said I could be scheduled for sometime in late August. As for the stress test, they want to do an EKG first and THEN send me out for testing (I'm assuming then they'll send me out for the stress test). So they scheduled me for an EKG the 27th and I'll get my clearance to travel that same date but not beforehand. So I called my bariatric doctor's office and they were somewhat okay with that but ultimately said just send what you can and that the doctor will review it. Has anyone else had similar issues regarding PCP clearance? My PCP's office was so rude about it all and this is not the first time. I'm seriously considering changing PCP. Side note: I won't be seen by my actual PCP doctor but the Nurse Practitioner that works in his office for the EKG and clearance letter.
shellyd88 463 Posted July 18, 2015 I was told by my surgeon that the clearance from pcp could only be accepted 10 days prior to surgery I don't know if it's an insurance thing or what I was treated rudely by my pcp office as well even tho for a few years it was suggested yo me to have this surgery lovely huh? I think they just think they can get away with treating ppl however they want lots of ppl won't change Drs cuz it's such a hassle and if u don't have a relationship established they may not approve u and if they are against it in general then what? I highly suggest u get copy's of everything don't give them the only copy of anything etc I had lots of trouble with things not being faxed on time etc so I started making sure I faxed it myself and keep a copy for yourself of everything just in case this way u can always make more copy's if needed also check dates they seemed to have trouble putting the correct dates on things confusing to me how someone with a medical degree can make such mistakes hmmm??? Jersrose43 837 Posted July 18, 2015 Nope. Called the pcp and got the letter. Then sent the letter to surgeon. He needed the letter for insurance approval. Basically recommendation that I have it. What I've done and I am healthy to proceed. A week before surgery I went for ekg, blood and clearance
majorsmama 91 Posted July 18, 2015 I had to get PCP clearance but my PCP and surgeon didn't care when it was. I had to get a chest xray, ekg and bloodwork and take it all to my PCP to review and then she sent a letter to my surgeon. My surgeon wouldn't even schedule my surgery without the letter so it would have been impossible for me to get it 10 days prior to surgery. I hope you can get it worked out! Formyboys2015 40 Posted July 18, 2015 I had to have a bunch of clearances and tests through my PCP (they were rude about it too) then I have to have a bunch of other pre surgery tests at the hospital on Thursday. It was awful getting it all done but once all of that junk paperwork was over it went a lot faster.
Jess55 97 Posted July 18, 2015 I hear that, I've been trying to get a letter from my pcp stating I'm a good candidate or something for surgery. I went there in April and I was hoping she'd just write the letter for me, nope, she's making me come in again. I think it's because she tried to push diet pills on me last time. Now I couldn't get an appointment for 3 weeks. I'm so annoyed with her. Given that I always wait like an hour to see her, one time I couldn't get an appointment due to back to school visits (I go to a family practice) and now this. Once I get clearance for surgery I'm going to find a new pcp
Formyboys2015 40 Posted July 18, 2015 My PCP was on maternity leave when the surgery center decided they needed more clearances. This is after my PCP had filled out a giant packet for them. The Dr filling in for her did not want to sign my paperwork but finally did but made me take a bunch of tests.
