I'm a month out and am still cranky but not as sore. Week one was horrific 2 was such a slight bit better I couldn't tell. It gets a little better when u come off the liquid diet. I've cried almost every day since surgery. I hate to have such discouraging things to say but I'm being honest. I wish I found the honesty from others before surgery. I hope things get better for u as quick as possible.

I am so happy you are being honest with me. I thought there was something wrong with me. Your so called "discouraging things to say" just encouraged me! Thank you and good luck to you!

Thank you. I'm glad I could help someone. I've been scalded on other so called support groups for being honest about my post op experiences because I say I regret doing it and would never ever recommend it to anyone. I have found more information on this app than I did during my research or was told by any dr or nutritionist. If I knew then what I know now....

2 days out I was still in the hospital and happily drugged????

By the 4th day though, I was back home and in severe pain. Severe to me since I've never had major surgery before.

I've cried countless times. I already have anger issues and they probably got 5x worse after the surgery lol I was unhappy on the liquid phase and felt I had made a big mistake, but one month out.... I can tell you things get better.

I still have a little bit of pain in my stomach but I'm certainly not sore anymore and feeling good despite everything. I'm now on solid foods and actually had a fit because it still does get hard to choose the right foods and making sure I'm eating enough calories / but not going over.

It is stressful especially the first few days after surgery, you will get through it though. I know some days you will feel like you can't go on, but keep going, and soon the bad will be so far behind us.

I was still in the hospital the second day as well. So it's normal to be irritable and sore two days out.

Yes that's totally normal. Your body just went through a lot. Be kind to yourself.... It gets better each day.

Days 2-4 were my worst days. On day 2 I felt as bad as I did when I had the hysterectomy. This is all normal; you just had part of your stomach amputated. Once you get up and start moving more you'll probably begin to feel better.

I was also in the hospital on day 2 - my surgeon makes all his patients stay 2 nights. I was uncomfortable to say the least. I didn't have much pain but really cranky.

It took about 4 weeks before I started not being totally exhausted. I'm in week 7 and still kind of cranky though. And I still don't have a whole lot of energy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
