2nd Surg this time Gallbladder

Recommended Posts

3 months banded, down 32 llbs and thought I was starting to have Pb's and band slipping. Couldn't really tell, just in a lot of pain after meals. Turned out to be my gall bladder was full of stones, so I had surgery wed night at University General. Awesome Hospital. Had to go there so someone with Band experience could remove the gall bladder. I feel so much better, and yet I hurt worse from the surgery then from when I was banded. Now it looks like no fat is a going to be a must!. It is weird with the band, I couldn't tell where the pain was coming from, I'm just glad it's fixed.

I may be heading for that myself. The ultrasound prior to surgery showed that I had gallstones...guess that is fairly normal in overweight folks, especially if you have high cholesterol.

One of the side effects of rapid weight loss is that it can also cause gall stones (sheesh!), so my surgeon let me know that in a few months, I may have similar pains as you did, and need my gall bladder removed.

I just recently went thought the same thing. I have been banded for 18 months and knew I had stones from the begginning but now they need to operate which is happening 7/11 next week. Can't wait till I can feel better.

I had an ultrasound of the abdomen on the 25th of June and found out I have 1 gallstone. I would have thought for sure that I was full of them. I have an appointment with my WL Surgeon on July 16th to discuss this. When I went for the first consult I asked if I had to have my gallbladder out could they do that and the lap-band at the same time and he said no. I guess cause if it's inflamed then it could cause an infection after the surgery. So why am I reading that so many have had both done at the same time. Personally, that makes sense to me. Why go through 2 surgeries when you could get it done at the same time. I guess I'll have to see what my Dr. says. I'll keep you posted.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
