MisforMimi 760 Posted July 16, 2015 I am exactly 6 months out from surgery (RNY). My weight loss until recently has moved along at comfortable glacial place LOL, like 1-3 pounds per week (If I was lucky) and there many weeks when I didn't loose at all. I did not feel much restriction either. I could eat an entire plate of food, no problem. My friend who had had the surgery 3-4 years ago said just wait, the weight loss is coming. I was expecting the 1st 6 months to be fast, but now I'm in a rapid weight loss pattern. I lost 6 pounds last week and 7.5 this week. Anyone experience more rapid weight loss after the 6 month mark? Since your weight loss kicked in have you been exercising a lot or eating differently? how many calories/grams of Protein are you getting in a day? How much exercise are you doing and what are you doing? Keep in mind, you need to find your balance of calories/protein and exercise. If you're exercising a ton your body might need a little more fuel to keep going. Otherwise, it tries to hold onto everything and you won't lose weight. Many people have a stall for a week or two once they're out a few weeks, but the time frame can vary between people. It's very normal, it's just your body readjusting. I got stuck around week 3 and then lost 5 the next week. Be patient, a week or two stall seems awful, but it's not permanent. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

goodnuff 239 Posted July 18, 2015 Wow, you have impeccable timing @misformimi. I have always been able to eat more than my bypass comrades admit to. I'd talked to my dietician about this around five weeks post-op and was reassured that I was "normal" but last night I was questioning whether the amounts I eat are because of my pouch size or my strong history of overeating. Of course hearing weight loss rates faster than mine hasn't helped how much I question my rate of success and everything I'm doing. I'd been hearing that docs were making pouches bigger than previously to help with complications for which I am grateful no doubt, but I wanted to see numbers closer to my cohort and I just wasn't until now. I have not changed exercising, but what did happen with the loss of appetite was that I stopped snacking COMPLETELY. I know a lot of folks on here abide by snacking, and coolers and having all kinds of food on hand but for someone with a tendency to overeat, it just triggers grazing which is a bad habit to break and always comes with some sort of unnecessary justification. I think that made the difference for me actually allowing myself to get lost in something and feeling hunger. It takes awhile but it can happen. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Mrs. Reid 392 Posted July 24, 2015 I am also right at 6 months post op. I noticed a change last month. I don't currently know what I weigh, but my measurements seemed to move at a snails pace. I had expected much more rapid weight loss and I seemed to be able to eat more that expected. Then last month all of a sudden, I could not eat much, I had my Protein and my veggie/fruit and was full and did not even WANT to eat more. I can eat a total of about 3/4 of a cup at one sitting and the thought of more food is such a turn off. I think it has taken 5 months for my mind and body to adjust to the change. Daisee68 2,493 Posted July 25, 2015 Interesting. I had a friend whose mom had this just tell me the same thing - that the Wright loss actually picks up. Gets was closer to 3 or 4 months but it seemed odd since I thought the earlier months were the fastest but what you say makes sense - just getting used to the new normal and learning how to use the tools even better. CindyWinFlorida 3 Posted August 10, 2015 I am so glad to hear that your loss kicked in at 6 months. I am 5 1/2 months and have lost a total of 57lbs since the day of surgery. I've lost 13 since my 3 month check up. I am so discouraged and depressed about this. I have continued to eat right and exercise. I am a post menopausal 51 year old woman who was HOPING to lose my 50% by my 6 month check up. This Friday I have that appointment and I will be at 42% of my excess weight. I find myself crying almost daily obsessing about reading this board and other boards looking for other people who have not done well so I can at least "explain" why this has happened. Please dont misunderstand - I am thankful for the loss just really stumped as to why its been so slow - especially the last 2 1/2 months. My daughter also had RNY and lost 120 lbs in the first 9 months. Happpy happppppy for her - was hoping I could have good results too. I am dreading my appointment on Friday because I dont want the surgeon or nutritionist to think I am not eating right or exercising. You see, I worry about silly things but I hope and pray that my weight loss will kick in like that SOON..... best of luck to you! Keep up the great work.
